Advice about shimmy

Hi there,
I hope someone can help me. I have a 2001 allroad and it has a terrible shimmy between 60-70 mph. It is a whole car type of rumbling. I've had the tires rotated and balanced and it didn't help. After a few minutes at speed it seems to smooth out. My husband thinks that it's something all audis have and is therefore not concerned. Is he right? I would hate to start to look at a kink in the drive train or something.

Thanks!

Hi hoprobin
As erstens indicated, our owners club only covers the A2 so you may be better off trying Audi-Sport.net which has a section for the A6 and Allroad models - http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=21
From your description the 'shimmy' does not sound normal. Possible causes could be worn suspension parts or even a bad or unbalanced tyre - try changing the front tyres for the rears to see if this makes any difference.
Best of luck

Cheers Spike
