Last year, someone told me my car (an early 2001 car) was different as they thought early cars came with chrome door releases, and mine are brushed aluminium. I have finally had a chance to find out why. Yesterday, I took some parts off another early 2001 1.4 Petrol SE. Also Silver, also Swing interior. Almost identical except mine seems to have been specced with a few options. One of these is the 'Aluminium Pack'. This comprises of Silver Dial surrounds instead of black, Silver Gearlever trim ring instead of black, Brushed door release levers instead of chrome, Silver handbrake button instead of black, Aluminium glovebox release lever instead of trim colour (swing in this case) and Silver armrest trim bands instead of trim colour (swing in this case). I've attached pictures of the comparisons, and of the brochure and pricelist I have for my car (early 2001). I hope this helps peoples OCD, as mine is a little better now
Note also, that all early cars had a solid aluminium rear window winder handle whereas the later cars had a plastic arm instead.
