Anti roll bar knocking

Hello .

Has anyone experienced this one? the antiroll bar has slipped to near side so much it now knocks on the suspension frame work. Knocking it back from the other side has revealed the two ceramic (typish construction) bushes have split Is it a sign the anti roll bar has bent? or perhaps just one of those things ?

Any pointers I would be most grateful

Unfortunately this is a standard "go wrong" item. The original antiroll bar has some captive sleeves which split when the rust beneath them becomes too much. The fix is to install the later anti-roll bar and new bushes. If you search on "DIY ARB repair" you should find my thread on fixing it yourself - but it does mean lowering the front subframe and an alignment check. I have some bushes which you can have for a small donation to the A2OC as I fitted powerflex ones in the end.

In addition to changing to the new roll bar and bushes, some members have used appropiate internal dia VW Polo bushes which fit the existing roll bar without the need to drop the subframe etc. Note the Polo bushes do not locate the rollbar sideways other than by the tight fit. had my roll bar and bushes replaced at White Rose VW Crosshills North Yorks -£150 all in.!
