Appeal for help on 15 July, Lingfield

Erm forgive me for asking but wouldn't you have though Audi would have been able to obtain an A2 by themselves, they did make and sell them after all!!!!!
That does assume that they actually like the A2 - have you ever seen one on the Audi Channel, or even in the Audi Museum at Ingolstadt?

It seems that Audi are more than a little ashamed of the A2 and have tried for the last 2 years to brush it under the carpet.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, my point exactly!!! they didn't really know what a gem they had on their hands, goes back to the comment I made about the sudden dissapearance from the Audi used car forecourts, almost overnight! A few million to develop the little gem over the years would have probably made it a best seller, that with a slight reduction in prices to bring it properly as an entry level car, it was too close the the A3 which people wrongly perceived as a larger car for similar money, Eggbert cost £20k in 2003 when new, you'd have got a good spec A3 for that money.
cheers,
Mike

Looks like you had a great day, weather apart.

I was fortunate enough to drive all those cars, apart from the R8 on Saturday (it was actually an A8 not an S8) andI enjoyed every minute of each drive. However, I've got to be honest and say that I really do prefer the ride of the A2 - it's not being faithful to the club or anything like that, the seating position and everything felt so much better in Tank than even the S5.

I notice from the photos that Audi have such faith in their build quality that they put cardboard oil catchers under the A2s!

You've given me another idea for a future mod with the fingerprint starter button now!!!

Cheers,

Mike

On investigation, it looks like the fingerprint reader only controls the convenience systems of the driver (seat position, mirrors, massage settings and temperature etc).

The reader is actually pressed as a normal start button is to start the car. It appears that this was decided after the designers thought it would put buyers off if they thought that they'd have their fingers cut off by potential thieves!

Cheers,

Mike

Yer was a good day, arived and had free bacon rolls drinks were free all day as was lunch and ive now been paid £50 for going. The S8 was amazing the sound from the 5.2l engine is aslo very nice. They were selling it for £59k. The finger print start would be a great mod probably not cheap tho. The weather was good it was quite hot, the water on the R8 was rain from the night before. They insisted the cardboard went underneath the A2 as they didnt want to mark the carpet even tho we said we didnt have olil leaks. I found the S5 very comfortable. Could'nt drive the R8 here ether they drove it. Had an RS4+ there in the morning but i didnt get a chance to drive or ride in it one of the guys siad it was going round the track a sechond quicker than the R8 on saturday.

The seat adjusts by pressing buttons 1-4 on the memory pad or by the directional pad with out using the finger print reader.

Glad you and Richard had a good day ,Nice pics especially like the one
of your cars parked on the carpet i Bet you was not expecting the
Bring out the Red Carpet Treatment .....;)

Those 4 memory keys are for times when either a driver not 'finger-printed' is driving, or to give another set of options to a recognised driver, rather than just having the one set (which would be terrible!).

The directional pad is there for manual control. I'll find out the price of the reader tomorrow, but you're right, it won't be cheap!

Cheers,

Mike

Right, the price for the fingerprint reader, including the start button, is £203.01!!!!

That's one hell of an expensive button!

Cheers,

Mike

Cheaper than i thought tho. Are you getting one to fit to tank?

No - that is just for the reader - the bit that actually does the clever stuff costs an arm and a leg. Think of the A2 central convenience controller, only on steroids and multiply it by 10 and you're getting close.

It all works on MOST bus too - that is an optical fibre system, which has replaced CAN bus in the A6 and A8.

Cheers,

Mike

I like the car but it is too low and I don't like low cars. The Q7 is nice but its like a huge tank. Mind you if I had the money I would still buy the R8 .. and a Q7 to go with it!

I'd have a turbo'd TT 3.2 V6 - just as fast (0-62mph in 4.1 seconds) but more practical and £25k cheaper.

That extra would go towards a fully loaded A8/S8!

Cheers,

Mike
