Awesome Fettling!

In a bid to maximise power and torque, as well as increase the every-day useability of Tank, he was taken to Awesome in Irlam, Manchester today for a spot of rolling road treatment and custom mapping.

I'll do a full write-up of the day later, but for now, suffice it to say that they have managed to increase overall power by over 6% and the torque figure by 1.2%.

The torque figure seems small and indeed it is, but the important thing is that the spread of torque is now over a much wider range, with peak torque starting at 1400rpm and being held above 90% of this figure until about 2300rpm.

This compares with the previous remap which developed peak torque at the same 1400rpm, but this went below 90% by about 1800rpm!

Indeed, at some points in the range, there is a difference of 35Nm between the old CCCTech map and the Awesome custom one, which increases to over 50Nm compared to the original factory settings!

So, the most powerful A2 in the UK just got better!

Overall, I am absolutely delighted with the results and the Awesome experience. I will shortly post details of their services and prices for members of the A2 Owners Club, but be assured that for anyone in the North, Awesome can really benefit you and your car.

Don't think that I am pulling a fast one on Vince and the gang at Stealth Racing either - I've already spoken to them and they're happy that folks north of Manchester would probably not make the trip to Southam anyway, so it's not robbing them of any trade.

For more details until I can get a fuller post up, see www.awesome-gti.co.uk

Cheers,

Mike

I cant wait for the write up Mike!
So are you going to tell us how much power and torque the little beast produces? :)

Its like waiting for the lottery numbers to be read out! :D

I'm not going to reveal the numbers, as Robin and I have a little competition planned!

Suffice it to say that they're mightily impressive though.

Very interesting indeed, I look forward to reading more - although I do feel that all the talk is somewhat 'flat' given that no actual figures have been given to provide the proof of the pudding..!

One thing I am intrigued by however, is given you were only at Stealth a short while ago for a RR and suspension fitment.. why not get the work done then instead of using Awesome, or indeed, as Awesome are closer to you get all the work done there? I know both companies have an excellent reputation amongst the VAG scene, so am not looking to cast a shadow on either, but I'm interested to know why you've used 2 companies as opposed to sticking with one!

Ian,

I've used both Stealth Racing and Awesome as I prefer to give custom to both places and share the wealth! (My socialist values coming out!).

In terms of mechanical fettling and enthusiasm, Stealth cannot be beaten and Vince, Robin, Graham and John are all stars!

The rolling road runs at Stealth were done more out of curiosity than anything else and it all adds to their database of vehicle data.

Awesome on the other hand are very handy for me, being only a 30 minute drive from my house. They supplied the suspension components and the Milltek exhaust at VERY reasonable rates too.

The custom remapping work done today was done free of charge, as they want to show off what they can do and attract more interest from A2OC members, who may not have realised that they cater for Audi (their name until recently was Awesome GTI).

I must point out that I am under no obligation to endorse their work, which is why I make it clear that I was not charged for their work today (besides, I have spent a small fortune in parts recently!, so it's partly their way of saying thanks).

Ultimately, the more A2OC members who can benefit from either of these great companies, the better. I can't choose a favourite between the 2 and I'm not asking anyone else to choose either, which is why I will sing the praises of them both!

Cheers,

Mike

By now, you have probably seen the reason for keeping the power figures secret - the compo!

However, to sate your appetite for numbers, here are the torque figures:

Standard map - 170 ft-lbs (230Nm)
CCCTech map - 210 ft-lbs (285Nm)
Awesome custom map - 255.39 ft-lbs (346Nm)

I think you get the idea!

Once the competition is closed, I'll post the graphs to show you all the curves.

Cheers,

Mike
