Boken oil dipstick

In my haste to check the oil level yesterday morning I managed to break the end off the dipstick. When I pulled it out only half of the plastic orange end piece (level indicator) was left.
Is this a common A2 problem and can the broken piece get anywhere where it could do damage to the engine?
Thanks

Hello Laurie,
The A2 TDI oil dipsticks very often break. You can search the forum to find lots of instances of this. My 90 has at least 2 of the broken ends in the sump. I tend not to worry about the ends getting somewhere they shouldn’t, I’ve driven about 60,000 miles now like this and I don’t know of anyone suffering a failure due to doing the same. A new dipstick from Audi is the way to go, they are under £20, or member @depronman makes new ends, though I don’t know how they are fitted to the dipstick.
All the best,
Matt
