Bonnet drain?

I plan to replace the gearbox on Mr Silver ASAP, I wish to prevent any possible rain water messing up the selector on the replacement gearbox. I wondered if its possible to simply fit a blank to the N/S bonnet drain which I think sits higher than O/S so would that mean any rain water will find its way to the O/S and out of harms way?

Think you might end up with some water retention in the side without the drain before it passes through to the side with the drain...

Thinking this will turn into a nice warm bacteriological soup, possibly even evolving new life forms along the way. . Not sure I'd recommend it...!
