Bought my A2 today

Hi Folks,
finally found an A2 today that suited most of my needs and budget .
03 plate 1.4tdi Black ,climate ,cd etc , etc
Car looks great and i have a few modifications in mind

1. Lowering springs
2 . remap

both of which i have arranged with APS www.autops.co.uk in brackley . they are superb specialists who have carried out a lot of the modification work on my Audi TT

3. the wheels are 16" and have standard tyres on them . I was thinking of keeping the standard wheels but putting a slightly wider tyre on it ?

Spacers as well to bring the wheels out slightly into the arches,
anyone running with spacers ?

Pic of my new A2 which i will be collecting next week :)

oh and pic of my modified tt :)

Black A2's are growing on me. Looks like you got a good one!

I miss my old TT :( great car! What sort of mods has your TT had?

Any chance of seeing if your A2 can keep up with your TT when you get it remapped? :D

APS remapped their own A2 to around 100bhp , think that will be ok :D
doubt it will keep up with the TT though

My TT at the moment is running with 265 AMD custom rolling road remap with 306lbft torque ,nuspeed shortshift, Koni fully adjustable coilovers , lowered around 65mm from standard , Brembo big brake conversion ,Forge DV , Miltek catback exhaust , 16mm spacers , R32 arb's plus a few little other bits ;)

Yes, black A2s are rather good!

I had an interesting duel with a TT-R 225PS on Sunday morning - I couldn't get past it, but he couldn't leave me either!

It's the other way round with me Mr Lurker - I've got a modded A2 and am searching for an Ur TT as the next project.

Happy A2-ing,

Cheers,

Mike

lurker…

205 x 45 x16 tyres fit if you want to keep the same alloys, I use Dunlop SP9000's they have great grip & wear and good tread.

can't quite believe what I'm reading here ?

a mapped 1.4tdi A2 holding its own against a civic type r ??

how well do the 75bhp tdi take to mapping ?

anyone care to throw in some 0-30 / 0-100 / 50-70 etc times for a mapped tdi ?

can't believe something with around 100bhp is going to be that rapid, I know there's plenty of torque once mapped, but blimey the A2 isn't that light is it ????

Welcome - that's the one from Birmingham Audi isn't it? Hopefully you mullered them on price because they were asking mega bucks...

Hi , yep thats the one , drove up to Birmingham yesterday , got a good discount , warranty etc and free delivery down to me in South Wales .

Got the impression they were keen to sell a few cars this month and they seemed pretty quiet .

Nearly tripped over my tounge when i saw the R8 they had in the showroom !

It is a nice one. As they say in this part of the world, 'Your health to enjoy her'

I'm in two minds about the earlier model service flap. One mind would change it to the new style (Vagparts) but the other mind (the lazy one) says the existing one would be easier cleaned!

Cheers

True! it even surprised me, although my little A2 didnt have enough power to overtake it.

The 75 TDI responds just as good as the 90 TDI to remapping, sometimes even better results than a 90.

A remapped A2 should have a similar amount of torque as a standard 225ps TT and the A2 weighs in at about 900kg about half the weight of a TT .

"Torque is the name of the game" :)

I know that torque is turning force so generally the more the better for acceleration, but I understood that Horsepower dictated the maximum velocity attainable for a given gear ratio.

In other words, depending on gearing, a car with higher bhp should be faster than a similar car with less power but similair torque if driven in the correct power band. Or so I thought??

Having owned a couple of Type R's, I really struggle to believe that my A2, once mapped, would put up a fight against CTR if the driver was trying - (based on how my A2 is performing unmapped) that would need to be one hell of a transformation.

What's the standard torque output for the 75bhp tdi, and 'typically' what would it rise to after mapping ?

I'm not being down on the A2 (i've only just bought one:D ) but I'm really struggling to get my head around how something that takes 12 sec's to get to 60 can turn into a road burner with a £275 remap

Well in a 0-60 the A2 would get a good hiding by a TYPE R but in the real world on the road at certain speeds and on certain roads the A2 would hold its own well mine did! :D And the civic owner was giving it some.

You could see around 200lb/ft from a 75. And im sure it would be able to do 0-60 alot quicker than 12 seconds possibly 7-8 seconds at a guess?

That's a massive improvement, 0-60 in 7-8 secs would be spectacular compared to Audi's quoted figures which I thought were 12.5 for the 75bhp tdi. I guess, more importantly, that the in gear times would be massively improved also.

Tank does 0-60mph in the 7-8 second region and would be quicker if he could get the power down without spinning the drive wheels.

Torque for Tank now stands at 346 ft lbs, which is pretty spectacular and 2nd gear starts are the norm now, which takes me up to 40mph in about 4 seconds, then a gear change.

I can't tell you the power just yet (see the compo), but it's not too shabby.

My colleague used to have a CTR and we used to have a riot coming home late after night shoots at work. He never could keep up with me until the VTec kicked in, then he romped past, but the A2s handling was not far off the mark.

Cheers,

Mike

is that just from a full milltek, intake and rolling road remap ?

very impressive stuff,

bought the A2 as an 'econo-mobile' really but now thinking exhaust/sports cat/mapping/fsd's and decent springs:D :D :D

Tank has a full Milltek, K&N filter (no intake mod - yet!) and a custom map by Awesome of Irlam. The Cat is still there too, although I am looking into having a bypass made, as long as it will not affect emissions.

When the gearbox has been fettled and the ratios adjusted, things should be a little better.

Pottering round Manchester, it is still easy to get 50mpg.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, quick question.

When i have my milltek exhaust and induction kit fitted would it affect the remap? In other words would i need to get it back on a rolling road to get the best out of the extra mods?

Cheers,
Paul.

If anyone would like a milltek for their <2003 small fuel tank TDI (please check correct part numbers though) i have the sellers details here. Around £120 for the rear box and £58 for the front pipe from milltek.

PM me for details. :)
