Sadly my Smart Fortwo Brabus and I have not formed a lasting relationship, it could be something to do with unexpectedly being blown into a different lane on the motorway last week and almost crying when it rained so hard I thought I the roof was going to cave in! So needless to say, we are parting company this weekend.
I managed to get an amazing part exchange value of £9,000 on it which is good for a smart car but obviously I still have lost money, but it could have been much worse.

It's sad because I actually do now regret part exchanging my A2 for the wife's people carrier. I should have kept the A2 and got rid of her Corolla which I didn't want to inherit from her anyway - and then got rid of for the smart car!

I did contemplate buying another A2 but decided that's best not to try and live in the past and despite never having any real problems with it, there were things I didn't like about it. So, I am now joining the ranks of the sensible medium sized family car people...!

Shall we play the guessing game again?!

It's amazing how you keep tossing around your money in new cars, Stuart. Especially since you admitted yourself that children are a real financial burden, which should in theory should make you more sensible about buying cars.... ;)

So this next car must be really sensible

It better be a Honda. FR-V perhaps?!

Otherwise it has to be the Mondeo or the latest Focus (station)

Swiv - you're absolutely correct, the twins really are a drain on my finances and no one likes to admit their mistakes but this really was one of them for me. So I have to face facts and move on before I lose too much money on it all. Indeed the next car really must be very very sensible, and definitely a keeper long term.

Widdy was a little close...I've gone for a new shape (2004) 5 dr VW Golf S 1.6 FSI. Seems the best choice as the engine has a good amount of power for the car, it should be reasonably economical and affordable with long life servicing and group 6 insurance. Plus as standard has aircon, electric windows/mirrors, CD player. It's 10 months old with 12,000 miles on it, all for the bargain price of £10,500 from a main VW dealer with remaining 3 yr warranty.

Phew how things change! At least you will only have one dealer to deal with now for both cars. And both have exactly the same engine!!! So you can swap spark plugs if you like! Enjoy!

Look at it positively....no schnoz!

Your mind is best kept like a parachute.
A2 1.4 SE TDI replaced with a subtle, refined, pre schnoz design A3 2.0TDI DSG, the transmission of the future - today.

oh Stuart!
How about the Altea?
I was thinking of creating a new car club, and I would appreciate a experience hand! [29]

But the Smart was that bad?
My parents are now on their second one. Only the first one (Pure) had problems with the plastic rooftop. Promptly replaced never had any other problem... it lasted 2 years. The second one (61hp Pulse) have now almost 1 year, with zero problems. [8D]

Good luck on your new Golf. However you should be aware that Golf's first units had several electric problems (specially on power windows).

Regards,
A2day

It looks like a Montego on steroids.....
As does BMW 1 series. Fluted sides are sooooo 70's

Stuart,

Good lad I say - even with two kids, your getting through the motors. Good choice on the Golf to Stuart.

Hope the family is well.

Picked it up this morning so thought I'd better take some photos of it as will never look as clean again! Pictures below...
