Cambelt and waterpump kit cost

Hello everyone how much would you expect to pay a garage to replace Cam belt and water pump (inclusive of parts) for a 1.4tdi 2004 a2.

A competent mechanic that’s not going to rip you off £350 inc vat Cambelt and waterpump ..it not a 2 minute job .. you must remember even small garages are charging up the £50 an hour look at their overheads rent rates Electric insurance and that’s without employing anyone main agents double that ..Look at all the gear they gonna buy if you’re a plumber you don’t have b****r all tools wise and the cheapest ule get £30 an hour ?

In the absence of a specific recommendation, it's best to go with an established independent Audi specialist. Get the job done properly.

yes £350 is cheap ask the question which belt / pump are they using and are they changing just the belt and pump or the tensioners as well. You need to change the tensioners I always use GATES belts and tensioners
Lesser makes are cheaper, but if any fail its a MUCH more expensive engine rebuild
if around london area then £500 would be nearer the mark

Change everything!!!! The previous owner of mine didnt change the tensioner - snapped belt = new head and about 18 hours of labour

Pretty sure the dutch A2 specialist garage I went to used just 1 hour for the job; Contitech kit incl Conti auxilary belt.

Conti because it is the provider to Audi

Kit would be from TPS Inc tensioners I'll check. 1 hour seems low but 3.5 seems high to me. Quite worried all this is a money pit I don't have the time or the money for.

Ignore that figure of 1 hour since it's fiction. 3.5 hours is about right. This doesn't make your car a money pit, it just needs the same routine maintenance as all modern cars do from time to time.

I know Steve, just this on top of other things which are not part of routine maintenance makes it hard, been used to Honda's recently spent almost nothing on them with no issues. Like I said in other posts have not made my mind up yet.

How about posting a copy of the invoice then?

The garage charged €485 for the job. Have the receipt in my car. Point was that I myself witnessed the mechanics used 1 hour for the job after the car was «airborned». So the profits the garages have for this job is massive; at least in Norway where a garage charge €900 to 1300.

Having done four cambelt changes now three and a half hours is about right. It’s actually quite a nice DIY job as there is plenty of room on the 3 cyl engine.

Cost me about £100 in parts
Belt kit including water pump
Anti- freeze
4 crankshaft pulley bolts

Wish i could get close to doing it in 1 hour!

3.5 hours about correct. Use OEM quality replacement parts. Just remind the person changing them to remove the air pipe into the intercooler from the bracket on the sump before they lower the engine. If not they will break the bracket that is now very hard to obtain. Likewise if the bracket is already broken or missing you should replace it as without the bracket fitted the air pipe puts more stress on the lower end cap of the intercooler. This in turn then cracks and splits open producing loss of boost and limp mode.

I also disconnect the oil filler pipe from the filling neck as when lowering the engine it could split & a new one is £120 + VAT from Audi.
