Cambelt change.

Hi,

It's time to change the cambelt plus the A2 is due a major service, Crawley Audi quoting £670 all in, plus i suppose a new water pump at £70 odd.

Thats £740 all in , is that a reasonable price? or do you think a specialist would beat this?

Thanks.

Ouch sounds quite a lot to me what are they charging for the standard service?

Try Fontain Audi...

Thanks Dan, i'll have a look at Fontain prices.

Audi quote Major service £269, interim service £149.

I also need to carry out a service and belt/waterpump change soon....These charges somehow seen contrary to the frugal nature of A2 Tdi ownership I have known up to now.

Just thought it may be of use??

I'm having a cambelt and all the tensioners; including the water pump £250 all in [fitted]
I forget the make of the belt.. it's German... could it be INA?? anyway if I wanted the VW one it's an extra £20.

This will be my third belt, but only second water pump.

PS long life service £135

AutohausDolby in Sheffield.

PPS I'm having it done a little early, but it will be the 180,000 service!

Timing Belt Change

I recently did mine myself - 1400 diesel - the same engine is in the Skoda Fabia, so buy a Haines manual for the Fabia and work your way through it. VW/Audi had mixed/matched up the tensioner/engine type from the Skoda details, but its all there. Belt cost £27 and it took all day.

Just had cambelt+waterpump (Audi kit) and full service (51000 miles) for 490 Euro at excellent local Audi/VW specialist. That included all filters, oil and new coolant. Your price seems quite high. Shop around.

Hi, Just had my cambelt + all tensioners, auxiliary belt and water pump done on my A2 diesel. Quoted £618 at Audi, Cheshire Oaks (Ellesmere Port) .Had it all done at Audi, Stoke-on-Trent for £350, all-in!!!!! They give a GREAT service, they are SO helpful and being done by Audi, there is a 2 year warrenty on all that work! Gives me great peace of mind! It really saves to shop aroud, eh! Oh, Audi parts are cheaper, too!...Two names :- Chris Long in service dept. and Richard Peach in parts! Go and save some money!

Hi,

Got a few quotes, local VAG specialist have priced up Cambelt/waterpump/full service for £501 + £100 V.A.T. Not too bad!

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

What is the service interval for the cambelt on the 1.4 petrol. We picked up our new A2 today. The book says 60K for the TDI but doesn't give any detail for the petrol version.

The car came from Stoke Audi originally so maybe it will be going home in the near future. It's a 54 plate on 45,000 at the moment.

Hi
The latest info from my local Audi dealer is 60,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first. They wanted £399 for the cambelt and £65 for the water pump to be done at the same time. So I took it to a reputable independant Mercedes / BMW garage and paid £295 all in, so it certainly pays to shop around.

Cheers
Mick

Thanks Mick. It looks like I need to visit Audi and see what was done at the last service. It has always been back to a main dealer for servicing and it's still on the flexible service regime. If it hasn't been done it is overdue.:(

Some of the prices quoted on here are crazy.

I used an Audi Independent recently in West London called Universal VAG. They use only Genuine parts and Audi trained staff.

I paid £380 for a 1.6 FSI cambelt kit, water pump and alternator belt supplied and fitted.

Service was excellent and valeted car free of charge. I even asked them to swap clutch as I thought it low but they said I could easily get another year out of it - they could have taken another £400+ for that but didn't to their credit.

Finchley Audi wanted £480 for the cambelt / water pump and £880  for the clutch!

£140 per hour labour rate.
