Why do electric car makers always quote zero emissions……………….Is the charging facility powered by Fairy Dust............…No its not, not even for those who opt into renewables...……... Carbon has been used/produced somewhere!
It will have produced emissions in production, its placement in the enviroment, its eventual disposal etc etc so no electric car can be zero emissions.
OK over its life the car may produce less if calculated per mile but to say zero is a little bit like current political discusions…………. subject to which way you take the statements made by the parties......

Much like anything, the manufacturer states the best condition possible, not being too bothered about how difficult that may be to achieve. How often have most people achieved the quoted MPG on a car without driving with great attention, I certainly haven't and even then it depends on traffic/weather etc..

I think that the vast proportion of Carbon is due to the usage of the vehicle and not the manufacture and disposal, so if they constrain themselves to that usage they can indeed state zero emissions in an ideal situation (running from solar/wind).

But other than that you are quite right. They are really heavily reduced emissions, but that doesn't sell as well. Don't get me started on the Toyota "Self Charging Hybrid" nonsense!

Yes i'm not convinced, i hear they dredge (destroy) the sea bed for rare earth minerals that are needed for the batteries. Until they can say we can charge them with 100 per cent renewal energy ie wind farms tidal generation etc it's just moving the problem somewhere else. Remember the clever clogs on the main land pushed diesel on us and look where that got us.

Personally they should push what they're saying (eu) today about goods we buy in general, in that they now realise things should be made to last and or be repairable. In the old days things you bought lasted decades and decades, you bought it once maybe twice in a life time. However greed took over in the late 90's till today where everything is deliberately designed to last just long enough till they want you to buy another one! I'd like to see the internal combustion engine developed further and cars kept on the road for much longer as it's the greenest thing to do to maintain something and use for decades.

I certainly charge mine from Solar and from zero carbons specifically so I'm happy that is waaay better than the alternative, but you are right, there is no such thing as a free lunch. But much like Vaping vs Smoking, there is a decent case that whilst not a perfect solution it's a site better that what we have done thus far.

One of the best bits of writing I’ve read in a long time well done seriously ..my thoughts exactly ..i watched that on dredging the sea beds how ecological is that we are a doomed species ..

I think that there is a lot to discuss on both sides of the fence and there is not a clear answer at present. I agree with what you are saying with the caveat that people will always want to buy new at some point, it's a fact of life. We can only hope that we make the best use of what has been built before, which I think as a community we are all signed up to, and at the same time create the best possible solution for those wanting to buy new, whilst remembering that there is no perfect answer, just a continual move towards arguably better and better solutions.

Thanks Paul, i'm just the messenger who like you try to keep abreast of all that's going on. Man is so stupid, well not man but the men in power are, money dictates everything. They've got big business pushing a sword in their backs metophorically speaking making sure governments don't stray too far away from their private agendas. Private agendas - you know whom i'm talking about. The Rockafellas the George Sorroses of this life, the illuminati etc. It's time people wake up and realise that the path we are on will destroy the planet. Who cares about GDP, it should not be the end of it all, it only leads to more and more of the same where because of investors everything is quantified in monetary terms. I do believe several technologies have been developed but shut down because ((( 'they' )))) won't make any money out of it. Yep,...... sharpen that lawn mower blade instead of buying another mower just like our grandparents used to do. ;)

Soros is one of the most philanthropic billionaire there is, he’s really tired to make the world a better place just look at what he has spent 90% of his net worth on.

He is vilified by right wing Americans as he does have a left wing socialist agenda.

Anyway back to the subject there is a great article here that compares the production co2 and energy generation in Europe to give a picture of the benefits of electric
