My A2 went for the first (VSI) service on Friday (at 36400 km´s). Picked it up again on Friday evening just to hear they had to change the front brake pads...:-( I asked why they burn down so fast and they said due to the automatic transmission on the 1.2 the brakes have to work harder because the engine can´t be used to brake...
And the whole service was €511, the brake pads alone were €148...

I thought that pretty steep, how were your experiences with the first service?

Bye, Frido.

Hi Frido.
My first VSI service was €350,- so that would be about right.
Still, €150 for two brake pads...
BTW I never use the engine for braking, my VSI service was at 50000,
and the dealer didn't find it necessary to change the brake pads yet.

At my first service at about 33000 miles I also had to replace both front pads and one tyre (£120)... total cost £420 AND I supplied my own oil!!!!!!!!!!! Highway robbery I say...

My first service is due in 1600 km (at 33000 km). But I don't want to have the pads replaced. They have an electrical wear indicator. If they are worn down, the DIS will tell you so. The dealer probably wants to replace them if he expects them to reach the critical wear before the next service. But I wouldn't mind going to the dealer for pad replacement sometime between first and second service.

The DIS said nothing about the brake pads, but according to the dealer they were worn out. Normally they replace the brake fluid, too, because it should be replaced before 2 years are up (therefore, before the next VSI service), but I will go back to the dealer for a brake fluid replacement when it is due....

Hmmm, I wonder whom to believe more, the dealer or the DIS...:)

Bye, Frido.

It is always a good idea to ask for any parts that are replaced, I had a BMW garage remove brake pads on a 325, only to find that they still had more than half the friction part left, I dont trust any garage now.

When I turn my car in for maintenance, I get to sign a sheet listing the standard maintenance for my mileage:
change the oil, filters etc., so I know what they plan to do. Anything extra, they call me first to ask me
if it's ok. (they did call for the front tyres). Not bad.
