Stuart, I've just come up with another car that might catch your interest:

the Mitsubishi Grandis.

Okay, so it's probably bigger and a littlebit more expensive than a Touran, but it certainly does have the looks and exclusiveness you might seek in a car.
They even have them in odd colours like a mild purple - and even that looks good on it!

Oh, and while I'm at it: have you seen the Peugeot 1007 (yes, double-o-seven!), for example on last weekend's Top Gear? Should be cheap. And cheerful (considering Clarkson's comment and demo ;)

Stuart,

I've just seen in this weeks Auto Express that VW are bringing out a Golf+ next year. It's a golf with a higher roofline and will fit in the range between the golf and touran. It's a mini mpv along the lines of the Altea. It has 3 individual seats in the rear. Might be worth looking into.

Congrats Stuart!

My money would go on an Altea as it is the least "fertile" looking device. You're not shouting from the roof tops that you are now a family man... Touran 2nd for sure...

As to Renault quality: I had a Clio before the A2. In 40000 miles and 2 years it NEVER EVER went in for anything apart from 1 service. So it was MILES more reliable than my german car costing twice as much... So don't discount the Renault just yet...

But for pure rarity and disctinctiveness I'd also go the Grandis route... you'll drive months before you see another one... all the others mentioned here are a dime a dozen...

Stuart

The latest motoring mags (what car/top gear etc) seem to all review the Altea at the moment, and give it 1st place.

Thanks all, but the Altea isn't really the size of car I'm looking for. Plus I've had three SEATs in the past and unfortunately believe it or not there actually are no SEAT dealers near to where I live or work, so there's little point in getting one!
