Door subframe bolts damaged

I’m sure it’s been discussed before but I cannot find the thread if so

Replacing my drivers door lock mechanism I need to replace the door subframe holding the window. In the Front top bolt holding the frame to the door the T45 head is damaged and I can’t get enough torque on to get it turned. I reckon I can turn it from the inside with two nuts squeezed together on the long bit of thread protruding.

But I’d like to replace the bolt with an appropriate size, length and material. Must the bolt be anodised or stainless in order to prevent galvanic corrosion against the aluminium skin of the door?

Morning,

Hopefully someone who has removed the window frame more recently than me, but from memory the 4 bolts securing the assembly in place might not be Torx and could be Spline. Can you add a picture to ensure I’m thinking of the same bolts you mention.

Either way I’m positive one of our resident breakers will easily be able to provide a replacement once you've extracted the bolt in question.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom. Definitely torx. The bolts retaining the lock are m8 spline but the window frame retaining bolts are torx. Will post a picture shortly.

Hi,

Torx it is then, it’s been a good year since I was inside a door. I’m sure someone like @A2Steve, @Ami or @Clackers will be able to assist.

Good luck with the bolt.

Kind regards.

Tom

No luck on the double nut trick.

I definitely have some on a door of my breaker, but I am out of action for a couple of weeks I'm afraid, but sure Steve or Ami can help..👍

I think you'll find that the bolts are in fact, not Torx. 7Zap lists them as "hex socket head locating bolt". From memory, when I had to replace both RH doors on my A2, I had to purchase the required spline sockets.

No doubt you’re right, but the t45 bit fits the other 3 bolts perfectly
