Driving while engine is cold

The manual stresses that you have to drive like a granny while the engine is cold. Does this mean revs under 2000 or speeds under 50. How striclty to people follow this rule and are the implications that serious?

Hi keez
Its very sound advice as more engine wear can take place in the first few minutes after starting from cold than several hours motorway driving. This is often why very low mileage cars can have more engine wear than a high mileage repmobile. Gentle acceleration and not labouring the engine in high gears are more important than keeping under 2000 rpm and 50 mph.

Thanks guys, clear as mud.

How about the 'cool downs' at the end of your commute. Is it equally important to wait about a minute before switching off the engine?
