Dual mass fly wheel - what is it and do I have one?!

A friends 1.9TDI Octavia just had a new clutch and dual mass fly wheel done, luckily it is a company car as the cost was £1500 from the dealer. The one on my Dad's Fiesta (1.4l petrol) is also vibrating / worn out, which will cost him about £800.

Which A2's have one? I thought only larger engines had them? If my understanding is correct, it is to dampen out engine vibration? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick!!

Any info would be really helpful in my continuing mechanical education ;);)

Thanks,

Dave

Can you fit the dual Mass to the 75 model? I would fit a Valeo Dual mass and as I can get them cheap it wouldn't be a problem.

As far as I know, no.

Mainly, it's because the clutch is integrated into the dual mass wheel on the TDi 90 and the clutch housing is of a different size to the 75s (remember, the gearbox and hence the bell mouth is unique to the 90).

Cheers,

Mike

Damn

It might have been a cheap upgrade, I will have to put up with the vibration:)
