Hi Spike

I will have a chat with vince and see if we can extend the offer but don't think i can get him to extend it that long.
But if you book it before the end of the offer is still stands at that price when you have it done say in may or when we can fit you in as we are very much booked up at the monent.

Cheers

Robin

Robin,

Can you give me some idea how much MPG will suffer?
I'm not bothered around town so much or if I boot it from time to time - that's to be expected, but a fair bit of my driving is at steady 65-70mph on a commute. If it's cruising on a gentle throttle will it still use noticabally more fuel? Also will there be emission issues at MOT time?

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon T

If you use it as you say steady driving then you won't use any moor fuel than you usually do it is only when you drive it hard that you use more fuel.

As for the mot there wont be any issues it will be as stanard at the reves they use for the mot

Cheers

Robin,

Thanks for the the reassurance.

One more - what are the typical gains for a 75 TDi?

Thanks,
Simon

Out of interest, with a remapped A2 running at around 110-120bhp and the lightweight of the car, what sort of performance would you expect?

For example would it be as quick as a escort rs turbo?

Seriously doubt it Manhattan.

The trouble is that no matter what power you have on tap, you are still running the same gears and so you'll have to go through at least 1st and 2nd to hit 60mph and although a chipped car will go through the gears quicker, it's still not that quick in the great scheme of things.

Also, the light weight of the car counts against it here - no weight=no downforce on the drive wheels=wheelspin=slower acceleration.

Also, the top end will be limited by gearing too, although you are more likely to be able to pull at the redline in 5th gear!

For the record, Tank does a 0-60mph run in the mid-7 second range, which is hardly tardy, but not stunning.

Cheers,

Mike

to get that higher top speed you need to change the 5th gear, this is not a difficult task and has been done on numerous occassions in germany

Watch out though, can only be done on the diesel and after chipping (you need that extra torx)

The fith gear of the 14tdi (75) will be replaced with the gearwheel of the 90 bhp one

this is what I will do after the car has been chipped. costs to do this are quite reasonable the germans quote about between 200 and 300 euros and about 1 to 2 hours work. The fifth gear is easy accessable if the gear box is off the car

So if you are looking for a higher top speed (only in fith :D ) then this is what you are looking for to do

After much twisting of arm's i have been able to extend the offer till the end of may.
So now is the time to get booked in even if we do the remap after may as long as you book in may then you will get it at the easter offer price.

Cheers

Hi Robin,

Just out of interest, do you remap 1.4 petrols? If so is it right that the increase in bhp would only be a rough 10? Could you see any significant benefits for doing this on the petrol model?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

we can chip the petrol 1.4 as you suspect you won't get big gains on the BHP but it will make it more drivable Around town and on motorways so it feels faster.

Now there is another BUT we have to take the chip off the bored so the cost will be £275+vat as their is more work to chip the petrols.

Getting mine done...

Just spoke to Vince at Stealth (very pleasant chap) and got mine booked in on the 19th May as there had been a cancellation that day.
He reckons I will be able to get in the region of 98bhp and 185lbs/ft torque out of my current 75bhp.

From what he was saying, as there have been so many A2's "upgraded" , they now have quite an extensive library of mappings to apply to ECU's if the more expensive rolling road option is not taken. I think I'll go for the rolling road version as it would always be nagging me that the car won't be running at its peak performance.

He also mentioned that if the re-map gets wiped (as happened recently with a customers A3 when it went in to Audi. They had routinely upgraded the ECU mapping in accordance to a new version rollout), then they will re-flash it with the Stealth custom mapping free of charge.

Roll on 19th May!

Robin,
How many hours does it take to do the rolling road remap?

Hi manhattan$, as a rough guide, it will take about an hour & half to 2 hours to remap,

Robin.

Hi Robin,
Thanks for that. Also out of interest, are there any other engine mods that you do for the A2?

Cheers,
Paul. :)

I've just been upgraded!

Just got back from having my ECU "upgraded" and what a difference! It seems like a new car has just been translpanted inside the old one.

I can agree with someones previous comment about wheel-spinning in third! There is just so much torque now. I took it for a test before paying and could feel it squirming for grip as I floored it in third. You really do get planted in your seat when booting it through the grears.

It now revs freely all the way up to 4000 where it used to struggle.

The best bit was on the M6 coming back to Stoke. It was so much more responsive when I needed to overtake (usual lorries pulling out in front of me...) and just kept on pulling way more than it did before.

Here are the figures before :

78.9bhp@3476rpm
166lbs/ft@2226

and after (two rolling road runs to tweak the power curve):

97.1php@3821rpm
207.1lbs/ft@2132

Quite an increase in my eyes and it shows on the road.

If anyone is thinking about having this done JUST DO IT. For the price you are paying, it is a big increase in performance and general drivability.

Thanks to Vince for sorting this out and to Robin for keeping me company while the process took place. It was great meeting and chatting with you both!

I've got some pictures of the A2 on the rolling road so I will post them later...

Going to go for a spin now...
