Hi folks, just bought second hand A2 1.6 FSI and day after I got it home from dealers a 'emissions warning' light has shown. I phoned the dealer and he said its because its been stood on forecourt a while, anyone had any similar problems and is he fobbing me off!?? Cheers

Hi

I'm not to sure on this one. The light usually means that the car is producing higher than normal exhaust emissions. It could mean other things, however I would check the paperwork and where you stand if you want to return the car.

suggest that you take the car back and say that you are unahappy, wait till they offer to fix it. Don't leave it too long!!

The emission light could point to a number of things and being stood on a forecourt for a while isn't one of them!

Take it backa nd get a diagnostic done and ask for the print out, which will show the fault. You can then take it from there as what to do.

Cheers,

Mike

thanks all i think ill take it back for another look, just a shame its spoilt my first few days with my audi a2!!

Hi, I have a 54 1.6 FSI that has done 26,000 miles and I too have had the Emmission Control Warning Light flashing at me. It went into the German Car Specialist garage and had a diagnostic check with a result of the system being cleaned. Then as I drove away from the garage the light started flashing again, arghh! Took it in today and now it's misfiring (drove fine all weekend). They are going to change the sparks. If that doesn't work they say they'll have to strip the engine...HELP. This is not great as I am about have a baby in the next two weeks.

I am now thinking of shelling out £103 to have it looked at at the local Audi garage.

Anyone got any ideas, be of great help.

First thing to check and swap would be the coil packs and spark plugs. The next culprit would be the either the pre- or post-cat exhaust sensors, which are often the cause of engine lights.

There is certainly no need to have the engine stripped - completely unnecessary. If you take it to Audi, they'll almost certainly get to the bottom of things quickly, but it will be costly, in terms of labour alone.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Skipton, they are now saying that the engine no longer neads stripping. The thing that is puzzling them (the garage) is that nothing is coming up on the diagnostic checks. hey are thinking that it is due to the respituary system...had no idea that my car has lungs!

Coil packs wouldn't necessarily show up on a scan, but exhaust sensors would.

However, if there is a warning light on the dash, then something will be registered somewhere. It's a possibility that their software isn't current.

Cheers,

Mike
