Engine warning light

Hi all, just joined although had an A2 since 2000! My wife uses it, immaculate ex-demo 1.4 with extras, 45K and FSH so well looked after. Anyway for about the last 3 months the engine warning light has kept coming on, been to our local Audi specialist who has tried everything. the light goes out and then 2/3 days later it comes back on. Is it time for a trip to the Audi Main Dealer? Has anyone experienced similar? The trouble is you can't ignore this sort of thing so any suggestions? It's just come on again so we really don't know what to do next. Cheers

Hi and welcome to the club, since 2000?! wow that must be one of the longest A2 ownerships.

Well the first course of action as always is to get it scanned for the fault codes, we can go from there.

What spec/engine is the car?

Cheers

Like I say, find the nearest Vag Com member to you who is willing to scan the car for fault codes, failing this you will to get a scan done at a garage and then we car assess the report.

Vag Com

Sory Sarge, being thick here, do you mean Main Dealer or some kind of specialist? Is there a geographical list somewhere? Many thanks.

Sorry, Some of the forum members here, including me have scanning tools. These tools (one of them is called Vag Com) will scan the car for logged faults and we can look them up to see what the car is saying is at fault.

Have a look here for a list of members of this forum with the tools.

Failing that you will need a trip to your local independent garage who has these tools or visit Audi themselves.

Got the codes!

HI all, at last we have the code, hope this makes sense to someone?

17559
Bank 1
Mixture adaption
Range below lean limit

The local Audi specialist has checked the Map Sensor and for air leaks

Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

1. clean the throttle body (properly, not just with an aerosol stuck in the grille)
2. clean the EGR valve / piping
3. make sure that the temperature senders are working correctly (don't ask, it has worked on the German forums for at least one user)
4. make sure that the lamdba sensors are delivering reliable information

then retry. That's a *very* short destillation of several monster threads from the German forums.

Hi, I've been getting this exact code (17559) on my 1.4 petrol since I bought it 3 years ago. It seems to occur every 6 months or so and once I erase it, it will come back maybe once or twice and then is gone until next time.

This maybe a major coincidence, but I always use super unleaded (v-power) and as soon as I switched to regular unleaded recently, the light came on. I then reverted back to super and after a few tanks erased the light....and touchwood it hasn't come back on again.

Is this a co-incidence or could it really be something to do with the petrol type used?

Anyone in Bristol

Hi all again. Is there anyone in the Brisytol area that would be willing to scan our A2?
Thanks

My 2 cents

Take it to a dealer. I've spent far too much time and money replacing stuff, cleaning stuff, trying this and that and in the end I had done the right thing but not quite good enough (according to the dealer) but they also updated some software...

This is just too overcomplicated a piece of machinery for an amateur where everything is dependent on everything else. Quick fixes, not seemingly on the horizon for but a few.

In the end, if I had taken it to the dealer from the beginning I would have saved £500 and probably 6 weeks of agony. Just not worth messing with it...
