Gear Box Selector Cables, Updated.

Some people on the German forums are looking to try and see if other VAG parts might be "close enough" to fit.

Currently looking for measurements of the originals, if someone has some of these cables out of the car right now?

Late to the party, but mine broke as well. I have sourced the only one I could find from a scrapyard in Lithuania. It has just arrived today, it looks like you would expect an almost 20-year old part to look like. My mechanic is going to install it tomorrow, so fingers crossed. I would still like to express my interest in one if these can be sourced once again from AT.

Would it be to much to ask for if - as some kind of Christmas miracle - a stock is still hiding out there...

Glad to hear you found a set Thomas!

I just clicked the audi.7zap.com link from Robin, and chased a part number link and it suggests the ends fittings are available on Aliexpress. Again, apologies if you have been round this loop.

Can someone with more knowledge than me, have a look?

Yes, these end bits seem to be readily available from a variety of aftermarket suppliers on various sale platforms. It is the paired cables themselves that are the issue.

Again, apologies if this has been covered but if the ends can be purchased, can they be sent to the cable manufacturer who can make sets up?

The actual cable is just one of many parts that make up the complete assembly.
In addition to the cable itself, there are several other parts that a cable manufacturer would not supply. They are VAG specific, as is the cable. Unless VAG will help, then design and manufacture of various adapters, to match available, (custom), cables to VAG mountings, and end fittingd is the only solution.
To give an example, the bush that secures the cable outer to the fixed bracket at the tower, and gearbox ends has an integral anti vibration rubber mount that isolates it from the engine/gearbox. Not easy to replicate.
Mac.

I believe that all the parts, with the exception of the cables themselves, (the lengths of which are midel/version specific), are common across the VAG range at the time.

Could you post a photo of that rubber? I can't figure out which one it is.

Here's one I destroyed a while back, when I was trying to find a solution.

Aaaaah now I understand. You're talking about spring clutches. On AliExpress there are ropes with supports too. If I can I'll post a photo. Maybe a change could be made.
I don't think it's a spring clutch.
More of a self locking/adjusting retainer.
Mac.
