Heated door mirrors retrofit

Hi David,

Reprogramming the air conditioning sounds a bit fishy to me. They may be saying that to justify the £65 + VAT for fittingAs I've always understood it, the heating element works when the heated rear screen is switched on or automatically when the outside temperature drops below +5 degrees C.

You've confirmed they are wired up so you know what's involved. I'm sure they'll work if you fit them yourself.

The below 5 part is not true. My mirrors are heated. But they remain frozen/misted until I switch on the heating. Same thing for the backwindow.
What is true that they cannot exactly pinpoint when it will switch off automatically. The mirrors are protected from overheating by a thermostat.

I'll go and order the heated mirrors and see what happens. At worst, I've still got to scrape off the ice.
The dealer thought that the A/C may need to be tweaked, as they had a problem with retro fit mirrors recently- they said!. Could be a load of B.S. The dealers are all very pleasant etc. but you always get the feeling they're taking the p*** with their explanations/justifications for their prices.

My first A2 had the winter pack (heated washer jets and mirrors), I bought it as a demonstrator but was dubious whether it was in fact fitted. I was well impressed when I saw the heated mirrors in action. They are really useful for defrosting ice but moreso keeping the mirrors demisted.

David - The mirrors are a bit cheaper from VAGparts.com - cheaper still if you're an A2OC member. Thats if you don't mind waiting for them to be delivered.

As for the A/C, never heard that before from anyone who's retro-fitted the mirrors. Sounds like a dealer scam to me.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

Yeah- once xmas is out of the way I will see about getting VAGparts to send over some. Anyone ever had a schoolboy type giggle over what VAGparts suggests, or is it just me?

School boy smut still raises a titter, depending on the mood I'm in.

I can't logically understand why, but I find Bo Selecta! rather funny, for similar reasons.

Glad to see that there is a moral majority on the forum to guide the way and keep us all on the straight and narrow.

Now then- isn't this a different topic? In Boulogne there's a shop in the historic square called (and forgive the spellings) 'La mystere du Fanny'. Now what's that all about?
As far as the mirrors are concerned though, Martyn at VAGparts has e-mailed me back stating that he has no knowledge of the air conditioning thing and that it is a straight forward case of switching the glass- it all sounds like dealer confusion to me typically trying to justify their prices and stop trade going to 'unofficial' parties. Price delivered to A2OC members is just shy of £50 which can't be bad. That's a saving of £110 if I had gone with the dealer. Makes your blood boil.

Yes that is the case!!! It is winter now so everyone should be able to see the rain clear off the mirrors when you hit the demister button OR better see the steam in the mornings when the ice melts as you scrape the windscreen with demister already on!!! I LOVE that!
