Helou from Finland.

Summer 2022 I bought my first A2, but my wife took it for herself and that A2 was one of a project last winter. Since then I have looking for another diesel A2 for myself and couple weeks ago I found one near where I live and it cost only 200 euros. At first I thought it is only for parts, but now it is project to be my daily driver because why waste good car.

It needs some parts and maybe more 😄
Interior is 95% complete, so I need to find some parts to make interior perfect. All I know engine might be good but turbo(?) is kaput. When I get instrument cluster, key, ecu and other things I can try to start engine.

On the left is wife’s A2 1.4 TDi, driven 556 000 km. On the right is my new A2, also 1.4 TDi and 2021 it had driven almost 500 000 km, but who knows how much now because it doesn’t have original instrument cluster.

A2 have been on cold and little garage since I bought it and now it starts to look like a car again.

Installed new shiny turbo. Not difficult job to do :cool:

New timing belt kit.

Interior is almost done. Need to change miles to km on instrument cluster and install new abs sensor to front left and all warning lights will be gone.

Gearbox was almost full of water and "things" on gear selector tower was bad. New parts and friend of mine fixed tower for six beers 😁

well done indeed to you to change turbo, timing belt in that kind of temperature, I was working at +3 Celsius today and it was hard on my fingers.
 
Maybe next time bretti! I was on work that time.

Both of A2 have been on out waiting better times and I have been driving with Passat. Passat has now 495 000 km and problems with brakes, poor thing 😁

But to the problems with A2. Everything was ok and I was thinking to take it to MOT but... gearbox is the issue??
Gears will work when car is parked.
When car is moving shifting gears 1 -> 2 works fine, gears 2 -> 3 I can't get work or 3 -> 4. If I shift 2 -> 5 it works fine. But if car is not moving all gear works fine.

So maybe there is problems with gearbox? I have tested several gear selector towers and tried to adjust cables but nothing get things better.

Searching from internet and this forum and I noticed there maybe is gearbox from same age Polo. So I placed order from Polo EXB transmission with 70 euros and took my hacksaw to make modifications. Tomorrow is time to take old gearbox out and try to place this EXB to engine. 🧐
 
Yeah I know it might be better to change clutch, but let's go my way 😁

Changing the gearbox wasn't easy task with my tools and garage... I did try multiple hours by myself and then I came to decision remove engine off the car.

Installing gearbox was much easier on the floor 😁
Bleeding clutch was pain in the ass but it is done and replaced all fluids.

Now gearbox works fine!
Actually whole car works fantastic now. Need to do something little things before going to MOT. :)
