Help - ABS Issues

All,

I don't know if anyone can help but i have a big problem and at the moment its going to kill my A2 in about 4 months.

I went down a pot-hole the other day and managed to break a wheel bearing. Not a big issue as I've had it replaced. Unfortunately it also broke the ABS sensor and my garage can't find one for love nor money. So at the moment whilst its safe to drive for now it wont pass the MOT in July and I will have to scrap it unless anyone has any ideas as to where i can find one.....

All suggestions welcome.

ABS sensors are available to order from all Audi parts departements and are around £45 each. Fitting is a doddle as long as the bearing has been installed correctly (you'd be surprised at how many aren't), so don't fret.

Cheers

Mike.

Are the loom connectors also available - My garage has had one on "order" for the last 6 months for the missus's A2 with no joy so far!

Hi,

The Sensor itself is easy to fit! I got mine from an Audi dealer for £38+VAT (so £45 like Skipton said). The part number i found on here was completely different to the number on the packet of the one i received, however the part is exactly the same (i can try and find both the numbers if you wish).

My wiring harness/loom is being replaced next week by an independent VW dealer, they have had no problems sourcing the loom. I spoke to Audi, and i think they could get the part within a couple of days. I believe the loom is around £40, so dont see why there should be a wait?!

I think (others could probably confirm this) that the loom has to be wired in (to the abs controller?!), rather than simply plugged. I didnt fancy doing that myself, and the garage quoted about £112 in total, which seems ok compared to Audi....they wouldnt touch the car until the problem had been diagnosed by them (£107+vat for the privilage!).

My Garage has been trying everywhere to get the loom connector but with no joy. They have tried all the usual suppliers (including ones that supply audi) but with no joy. I have got the sensor from breakeryard.com but no joy as yet with getting the loom connector. Any more ideas (or numbers I can call to get it done). Skipton - if this goes on much longer it may be easier for me to just bring it up to you....

I'm doing something very similar for our own member Swalesy tomorrow, so if you get no joy Paddys, just drop me a line.

Cheers,

Mike

PS I'm even cheaper than Mr Trixsters quote!

Hi there my 51 plate tdi passed 2 mot's with the abs light on.The abs is an enhancement to your brakes not a requirement. The funcionallity of your brakes is not affected whether your abs is working or not and as long as your brakes meet the mot spec with regard to braking effect your garage can't fail you.Not having abs is not an mot fail.Hope this helps.Cheers Davy

Cheers Skipton,

Mine's already had a bit of wiring work done but I'm sure it won't be an issue for you ;) I'm going to be coming across to Milnrow a few sundays for a few hours at a time so could pop down at that point (tho it will depend how long it will take as to whether we can do it at that point). Otherwise I will have to make a special trip (not that this is a problem!)...

Unless you want to point me in the direction of somewhere i can buy the parts to get it done locally!

Cheers again

nod... but my local garage have advised me that a minor abs fault (Yellow warning triangle on dash) is fine but a major abs fault - red circle and three beeps is a fail!

No sweat didn't realise your red warning light was on as well.Mine was the yellow abs and the 3 beeps.Cheers Davy
