Ok.
Whats the strangest thing you've have hit in a car???

This weekend I hit what can only be said to be the strangest thing!

That said I am sure you can do better..

I hit a step ladder at 65mph in the outside lane of a ring road.

Made a hell of a sound, cost £20 for Mr Audi to have a good look to check nothing important was broken, just a few scratches to the engine under tray.

Feeling quite lucky...

There isnt a guy now hanging from a roadside lamp, who was in the process of changing a bulb?

My strangest was a pile of bricks on the A1 coming home from Geordie land. It was early on morning,9 a.m. well early for geordie land on a Sunday, when at about 105 mph in the MG I saw this pile of bricks in the middle of the carriageway. Oh dear, I said (well I had just come from Geordie land), swerved to avoid ripping the sump out, and ripped the tyre so that you could easily put your fist in the hole. I had just bought a new set of run flat tyres, cost an arm and a leg just before setting off. I went to my tyre supplier for a replacement, he said "are you complaining?", no I said "I'm *%&**)"* ectastic". Dead stags are not uncommon on Essex roads, they can be a bit of a turnoff.

Hedgehogs are really annoying if you run over them. You still find spikes in the tyres weeks later.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.

The car salesman shouting 'but you haven't paid for that car' as I drove over him on tearing out of the showroom at 100mph.....

I must be lucky-ish, just the usual one glove, hat, iron bar, various animals. But never a ladder!

A seagull full on the hood that went under the car. One hell of a mess.....

Another one is a pigeon bouncing off the windscreen and going over the roof - great if you've got open sky. You can watch it in full panoranic glory. They tend to leave a bit of an oily smudge though.

I promise I don't aim for all these animals on purpose.

A **** pheasant in flight - Big cloud of feathers, broke the numberplate, didn't stop for the carcase!

I hit an empty huge yellow barrel which fell off a lorry traveling in front of me at about 70mph on the M25 (in my VW Golf). The barrel lodged itself at the front bumper and stayed there while i was slowing towards the hard sholder, then at about 15mph it thwonked (thats the sound) under the length of the car.

I pushed the clips back in on the front skirt of the bumper, and went to VW who plugged back in a few wires for free, but there was no permenant damage.

Sh1t me up though! :)

I suppose I could claim running over a gearbox, well the rear of the car running over it. It was MINE!!! A Sierra and the gearbox fell out on the M4 near Badminton. I sdidnt care it was the firm's car.

Rob, I would think the Hedgehog was more annoyed!

I was following a moped who bizarely was carrying a large bag of gravel on the carrier at the back of it. As it went over a bump in the road, the bag of gravel fell off and into the road in front of me. I drove over it (I was in a VW Golf) and my front skirt (on the car, not my dress!) tore open the bag making a hell of a noise as the entire car passed over it! Amazingly, the moped didn't even stop - I'm sure he would have noticed the difference in weight after losing the bag!

The only damage was the plastic guard under the engine bay was ripped off and hanging by one of the screws. I suppose it could have been a lot worse.

Very frustrating...

Collected an original VW Beetle Hub cap (you know about the size of a dustbin) on a right hander as he took the left opposite. Made a big 'v' in the spoiler of my Imp (no sniggering at the back please)

I was with a friend in his rally Saab 2 stroke when we collected the bonnet of a Mk 2 Ford Zephyr on the A1 just south of Newcastle. It had blown open overcome the safety catch and ripped off. Flying like a giant (bloody big giant actually) piece of A4 paper through the sky across all three lanes.

The Saab shrugged it off but required some new lights!

Sorry, but I had to snigger at the Imp. A friend had one, wowee! That was the model where the line hands were paying the Inspector to pass rubbish, eventually leading to the demise of the business.

Whats an Imp? Being of 1974 vintage, I ain't got a clue.....

Just jesting. My mum used to own a Dodge Dart-lucky as the car she really liked but turned down at the last minute for the Dodge was a Triumph Toledo......That Dodge meant a 10 point turn on London's roads! I was the koolest kid around.....

Actually my Imp was a Singer Chamois - luxury and four headlights and after tweaking put out about 100 bhp from its ex- coventry climax f3 derived, very light engine. A very fast (in its day) and fine handling machine tht regularly trounced the coke bottle cortina and escorts in 74/5. I still have a loft full of Imp tunig gear and hanker after a classic for a rebuild. Front rad etc.
A cracking car ..... in 1975!

Sounds like you loved it. It's funny but the cars that you have owned which lead people to pour scorn on them are often the best loved. For me it's either the Austin A40 Somerset, or the MG Montego, a very under-rated car indeed. It's still making someone happy in Norfolk, and it was born in 1986. Runboy, it's white and is known as Jimmy, JMH on the number plate, give it a wave if you see it.

So the MG Montego is still running round Norfolk eh? I'll look out for it. I still see Montego estates running around, mainly 'Countryman' editions (was it Countryman, or just Country.....).

My parents had one of the early Montego's, a 1.6L. Nice motor really, for those days. But I think they did dump it on the dealers forecourt at one point due to unresolved fixes, but it got there in the end.

The Somerset was made of thick steel, I think they could make a Churchill tank from each one scrapped. I loved that car, bench seat, column change, leather seats as standard. I wish I had it now. I also wish I had my old Douglas MKV motorbike. I must be getting old! You could take either of those to bits and put them all back together, no problem, I often did.
