Hydrophobic Coating for Rear Glass

In the archives are some articles that elaborate on the coating that is applied to the rear screen every two years by Audi dealers. However none of the replies identified what the coating is. Although Rain X was mentioned a few times, i understand it is Ombrello. It is retailed in this country by www.weathertec.co.uk. they also supply the trade with trade application packs. For a cheaper method - go to www.weathertec.co.uk/motoring.htm and get a few quid off courtesy of the Telegraph motoring page tie up. Perhaps there could be an opportunity for an A2OC tie up also in view of the A2's need in this dept.

I recently had my two year service and actually asked the dealer about the Hydrophobic Coating. Suprise Suprise...they had never heard of it and said it wasn't necessary!

Has anyone actually had it done?

AutoGlym Glass polish seems to do the job to a resonable level then again my car is only 3weeks old so may still have factory coating on it, What happens if it gets broken do the repairers coat it or is the glass precoated, or do you just miss out?

Rain X does work wonders especially on front and rear screens. At 40+ mph you really don't need to use your wiper at all all water is cleared first. Likewise the crap the collects under the rear spoiler is lessened using this stuff.

It is also great on dewy mornings - as you drive off, all the side glass clears - the water just beading off.

There is a downside - as the water beads if we have a sharp frost the ice is the morning is thicker and harder to get off!

It does also make normal use of the wiper (the wife doesn't trust that the glass will stay clear in heavy rain) a bit smeary.

I tried Rain X on my rear window and it lasted all of about a week... there is no way I'm polishing my rear screen weekly thank you... So I used it once and the 2 year old bottle is still in the cupboard unused...

I have ordered some Ombrello. I'll let you know of
A) my experience with the company
B) my experience with the product

I'll use it on the Volvo if there is enough of it, as the rear window has never wiped properly from new, slight distortion in the glass I think.
Rain X was no good.

Well it's 12 days since I ordered Ombrello, theres no sign of it and no acknowledgement of order, I continue to patiently wait.

Have received mine, but not what was ordered.
Ordered a twin pack plus free Visio Antifog on 23rd July,
Received a single pack plus free Antifog on 31st July.
I was charged for the twin pack and have been promised the missing pack. Not received as yet

Stuart, and all. My Ombrello turned up this morning, I notice their web site informs that during August the delivery times are approx 10 days. I ordered in July, but I suppose that in a holiday period that's fairly understandable. Looks like good weather to apply it, I'll lety you know how I get on.

I expected a pre cleaner cloth as well, but did not get one. Yes It's a lot smaller than I expected. I followed the instructions to the letter, it seems that a lot of fluid is dispensed initially and quickly runs out, so speed of application is important. There was barely enough to do the windscreen and rear window, but I am sure that there was some applied to all relevant windows and mirrors. I was particularly concerned about the mirrors. After application I sprayed the car and tried the wipers, all seems OK, but not the mirrors. The real test will come if it ever rains!
