I want to fit a towbar but where can i get one from and fitted (hull uk)

I suppose it depends on whether it comes with the wiring. I think the GDW one is around £400 isn't it so its a decent enough saving on that.
It looks to come with harness Steve:

I obviously am unable to speak for the quality of their products. Having driven around some of the not so well maintained roads in Poland I can only but guess the towbars will be up to the job, if they’ve not failed over there then they will be fine here.

Kind regards,

Tom

Be aware; My cars are LHD and there might be differences vs the RHD models.

I have finally received 2x Steinhof A-072 from Poland, bought and transported to Norway by a polish curer.
Please find my personal observations and opinions related to fitting of the first one to my bosses (wife) car, I hope they can be to some use:

Packing: was ok, no damage to the parts, no CE marking on the two I got, approved by polish authorities.
Installation manual: is one sheet and not impressive. (No instruction wrt which parts to remove from the car as one example)
Material selection: Seems to be good. Medium grade steel. I have checked harness and composition because this interest me and I for a while considered to arrange for a small production. That was effectively stopped by a very short replay from national authorities...
Welding: Visually good quality. Weld fill is well suitable for the chosen dimensions.
Design: The first fit gave 3x clashes, most serious is the clash against fuel fill-piping
On the positive side; this tow bar assembly do not require any drilling of holes in the car.
It is necessary to do a moderate cut-out of the rear bumper, only visible from "below"
Paint: Some of the parts had been in contact during transportation, though no damage to the paint. I do for the moment not have access to sophisticated test equipment so I can only have an opinion based on a "light"visual check.

The polish national approval of this towbar is based on max nose load of 60kg and max tow weight of 1200kg while the homlogation of the A2 is 50kg/1000kg so there should be an additional 20% safety margin in those numbers.

First towbar was fitted outdoor in the dark, with the support from a headlamp... so I have no good pictures to back up with... Sorry.
My plan is to fit the second one on my commuter AMF, I hope to take pictures then.

Thanks

Resurrecting this thread @dieselfan - is it too late to ask for some pictures please? How did your second install go?
interested in this too as i travel to Poland twice a year so could bring one or two over
Very strange this came up now.... since I installed the second Steinhof A-072 late Saturday, again in the dark. (still no space in my shed to work indoors on my cars, but the sun is shining now so it is easy to jack up the car and take the pictures I should have taken in 2020....🥵

The LHD 2005 A2 1.4TDI BHC i fitted the towbar to this time, is a car I only have had for some days so I do not know it very well.

To fit the towbar was exactly the same as described above.
- bolthead clash with one of the filler pipes. (I made a protection plate of 2mm HD-PE to divide the force out on a larger area)
- The original paintwork was not sufficient for Norwegian salty winter roads so I added two layers of "outdoor paint for metal" to the hole structure and bolts.
- With experience from the first towbar... I still belive the weakest point of the delivery is the fasteners. Do what you can to protect them against corrosion.
Pictures will be added.

It looks like there are a couple of GDW kits out there - the older T30 design and the newer T60 coupling. I’ve just gone ahead and ordered the 1568T60 kit from this seller in France for ~£360 delivered.. will report back if it meets expectations!

Fitting instructions are here, if you’re interested: https://www.gdwtowbars.com/assets/uploads/gdw-manuals/1568T60-manual.pdf

Hi @sailesh, did the towbar from the French supplier work?

Yes it did - I had it fitted by Gary at B&F autos. The most difficult part was apparently getting the electrics wired as the instructions were inconsistent. This was possibly because the seller replaced the standard 7 pin electrics with a 13 pin set that I had asked for.

Pricing-wise, be warned that import duties add around £120 (I vaguely recall), but there is another French seller out there who is slightly cheaper:

In total you should be able to get the kit for £450 or so including taxes etc, then allow half a day for fitting.

That is awesome news. And a news and a question, do they supply the bar and the hitch? I'm totally new to this!

@Erlingtheyounger can you send a link please. I cannot find it!
