Impressive MPG

My S2 quattro gave me about 19mpg. Track days were significantly reduced! When you gave it the beans (which with the 5cyl soundtrack was most of the time) the instantaneous MPG consumption would hit 4MPG.
After I decatted it it would spit flames in the overrun which was a great noise!

Can't imagine having a car without DIS or similar. My older car had OBC, which is essentially the same thing, but without the dot matrix screen.

My friend has a Golf + and he has no equivalent... In a 56 plate, just seems wrong. We're all different hey!

49.x mpg on the way up here according to DIS.... hmmm. Will it get better on the way home? I doubt it, I also wrung it out once pulling onto the main road (5500rpm changes x 3). Ah well, such is life. 22C and three-up with a reasonably full boot, that's not too shabby for a petrol.

Not bad at all for a petrol Bret.

I've put the A2 in for its cambelt change today, so used the wife's to do 200 miles to wales and back. 80+ mph there and back a/c all the way there, and the 1.4 Honda Jazz did 47mpg. If it had a lower cd I reckon it could do more! Could feel it slowing when coasting, where the A2 keeps on coasting.

Ian here...

I once had a souped-up old Mini, and managed to get less than 3mpg out of it.

Mind you, that was on the occasion the petrol tank rusted through on the way back home after filling up...

For some reason I never reset the average mpg since I had the car ( never knew I could ) so I reset it a couple of days ago and is now saying 47.4mpg which I'm very happy about. When I bought the car about 3yrs ago it was saying 36mpg and until I changed it i got it up to 41.2mpg . My future plan is to fill up with different brands of fuel standard and premium and monitor on Fuelly which is the most cost effective brand . My first fill up using fuelly was standard Sainsburys fuel and my second fill up was Esso premium fuel, so looking forward to seeing the difference between the 2 . Quite looking forward to seeing the results.

@redbull: You know it takes a while for the cars timing to adjust to better fuel, ie probably more than one mixed tank. Can't vouch for 1.4 but on the 1.6FSI Tesco momentum or shell v-power are best.
Maybe on the 1.4 the Sainsburys super unleaded might be good? Its not much more than their standard 95RON and I doubt the 1.4 would see the extra benefit of a 99RON over a 97RON.

average speed of around 73km/h and I have 5.7 on the display, which fits with the double-click of 23.xl @ 425km, so 49.7 mpg. Now I just need to take the rear carpet out, as my mug of coffee spilled all over it on the way home. Some documentation is in order, methinks.

Much better numbers with the new air filter. Pressures are also at (warm!) 2.5 front 2.7 rear.

Off on a 200 mile round trip tomorrow to get my red leather :) DIS currently showing 45.1 MPG which I am happy with , 1st time doing a long journey in my A2 so looking forward to seeing if I can add a few more mpg,s to my DIS. I'm looking forward more to the journey back, sitting in comfort :)

Right , finally home :) My DIS is now showing 52.6 , and to top it off had a comfortable journey back in my red leather seats !!

Cheers Rob , was nice to meet you .

Mods are great, and addictive!

Great, addictive and EXPENSIVE lol .

I'm already trying to think what to do next .

I fuelled up today and according to fuelly I'm doing 46mpg !!! Which for a petrol I think it's pretty good. But again very addictive , DIS on all the time monitoring the MPG, if I go up a hill and loose 1 mpg I try my dam hardest to get it back lol. Do I need help ? Or is it because the A2 is so addictive ????

I was disappointed the other day when I found my last tank of fuel returned a mere 65.6mpg! :p

Where's the smug emoticon?

My first Fuelly just suggested only 51mpg... DIS said 58, usually shows 60. I've only just got it back from VAG Technik following cambelt/water pump etc,.. So I was expecting a drop after they had it idling bleeding etc,.. But 51 is less than I was hoping for, and I've been trying!!! Boo hoo.

It takes a few tanks to average things out.
Also what sort of trips are you doing? Anything less than 60 miles will significantly impact on mpg

I was travelling at 70ish for most of my last tank, but was in 2 long journeys so not surprised when I saw 61.5 in feully

Tyre pressures?

J

I find even with the horribly wide tires on my car that with a 60km each way jaunt and 150km of town driving my last refuel indicated 61.2mpg. The 1.2 does not really ever drop below 40mpg even with stop/start short trips through the winter (-10c or worse).
I am very happy with my A2 and will treat it to some upgrades when funds allow. I always have aircon on and always have the mandatory dipped beam lights too.

Don't worry it takes a few tanks to even out- try and fill it to the same level each time to get more accurate readings.

Check tyre pressures though as Hooley says, (I run mine at 42PSI for better MPG) and check how long does your car take to reach an indicated 90C on the temp gauge. Sticky thermostats are very common on the A2 TDi and it kills MPG.
