Intermittent jerking/hesitating

this has been happening very regularly but yesterday the ABS and traction control warning lights came on and the car was idling very rough very lumpy
almost as if it was running on 2 cylinders, i switched off and restarted and this resolved the propblem but then in 2nd and 3rd it continues to hesitate and makes driving very jerky...its like a sudden loss of power for a split second....i've had the MAF replaced but now im driving with it disconnected
and its been running ok today..any ideas what this could be?

it's still jerking/hesitating below 2000rpm its actually now doing the same thing above 2000 rpm. When the jerking gets really bad the traction control and ABS warning lights switch on and the car idles very rough
i dont know if this is what you call limp mode. i have to restart the car
can anyone please help

its the Tdi 75

Mike has suggested it could be a coked up turbo but would that trigger
on the traction control and ABS warning lights?

spoke to a local VW specialist he said the jerking and traction control lights switching on is usually and very often the wiring harness....anyone else
had the wiring harness for injectors replaced or problematic?

lumpy idling

Sounds like you have a cylinder going down for some reason possibly injector trouble either wiring or injector.I have ABS and Traction control lights on at present with no idling probs. If it is an injector your emmisions will probably be bluey white, very noticible as the car struggles on 2 cyls the engine will go into limp mode to protect itself. You need a diagnostic to see whats goin on in there:(

How strange, must be the Yorkshire air, I was heading out of Saddleworth to Leeds this morning & my 1.4 TDI was hesitant between 2000 & 2500 rpm I was just thinking I'd felt it do this before when the worlds best alarm bleep (oh how I'd like to turn that thing down...) went off with the ABS, traction and brake warning lights coming on, the engine went lumpy and unresponsive so I pulled over turned off and restarted, all was fine on the rest of my journey up to the M62 where it pulled up to 100 and ran perfectly up to the Huddersfield 3 lane parking scheme without missing a beat, than handled the remaining crawl to Leeds without a missed beat. Guess it's a visit to Huddersfield Audi Mmmm that'll hurt!

i've had it on the vag com the fault it is showing is

injector 1 intermittent electric malfunction...so the guy was right about
the injector harness have booked it in to have it changed..

it will certainly be the wiring harness because that is exactly what kept happening with me

Ouch...

Well it happened again this morning so I got it to the dealer and asked them to do a diagnostic check (bad move). I have a failing/failed injector... I shouldn't drive it... They can fix it tomorrow (not got the part in stock) for the tiny sum of £565 fitted... Oh how I didn't need that!

i'd only replace the wiring harness....what was the actual error on vagcom?

i have the same problem as you and the local independant told me it is a
common fault and 9 out of 10 times it is the injector wiring harness
that is causing the misfire

I challenged them when they said it was the injector and asked if it could be the harness, but they said not and reported back that the fault was showing as cylinder 1 injector failure (I don't trust them...) I've had the injector replaced, they quoted 1 hour to do the job, took them 3 apparently it's really difficult to get round the back of the block and the mechanic has to do it by feel, they honoured the quote. But they did add a £56 charge for diagnostics... Then gave me a Privilege Plus card and discounted the labour and parts, why bother just make the dealer costs cheaper!

I'll report back if it does it again but I hope it doesn't! I have noticed that it starts better and pulls from standing a little better it was getting sluggish, or am I just justifying that jaw dropping cost to myself

Andrew, save a bundle on diagnostic scans and come to me - we must be within spitting distance of each other!

Cheers,

Mike
