Lambda Fault code: 16524

Hi guys,

I've recently been having a problem with my engine management light coming on every few miles on my 1.4 petrol. The fault code causing this is: 16524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S2
P0140 - 35-10 - No Activity - Intermittent. When I clear it, it stays off for a few miles but then comes back on. I think it's probably time for a new sensor, my question is which Lambda probe does this fault relate to? Will it be the one before the cat or the one after? Also, where will be the best place to source the part?

Cheers Rob.

B1 S2 is Bank 1 Sensor 2 so I think it is the post car, rear lambda. I would think if it goes, it will usually be the front first. So 'no activity' may mean a wiring problem. I would suggest you first check the wiring before spending money on parts. There are 3rd party suppliers of generic lambda probes with either 4 or 5 wires for £30-40 but I have not investigated how to wire it up. I last asked about a front lambda part from Audi, it is about £120 from memory.

Thanks Humps.

When I get chance I will have a look under the car at the wiring for the rear Lambda. I would also believe the front Lambda would normally go first so I guess it seems most likely there is a dodgy wire.

Cheers Rob.
