Loose hatch strut

The right side strut is making a rattling noise whilst driving and when the hatch is opened there is slight play or movement where the strut is bolted to the body, but the other side is fine.

Any advice on how to tighten this, as i dont really trust dealers as they tend to repair faults but inflict other damage whilst doing it :(

The strut is located by ball ended studs which screw into the bodywork. You could try nipping these up with an open ended spanner. I think this can be done without removing the strut but if not, chock up the tailgate, open up the strut end locking clips with a small screwdriver then gently pull the strut off the ball ended studs.

It might be worth putting a drop or two of Loctite on the threads of the ball end studs to stop them working loose in the future.
 
Just had another look, and it seems that the bolts are not loose.

It looks like there is some sort of play in the ball joint parts??? Looks like it maybe a dealer fix :(
