main dealer oil service?

When changing the oil at an Audi main dealer I wondered of they actually removed the sump plug or just sucked the oil up through the dipstick entry point?

A friend recently had a starter fitted on a BMW, which required the removal of the sump to gain access. On inspection there was all sorts of oil gunge at the bottom, apparently due to the oil having been sucked out at main dealer services.

My Tdi has Audi history up to now, but I quite like the idea of undoing the sump plug and letting warm oil and gravity do it's work for the next oil change.

cheers.

Franchised dealers will always use a suction device to remove the old oil - it's far quicker and means that they can do an oil change service in around 15 minutes (although you'll get charged for a minimum 1/2 hour labour).

The sump plug is just about undo-able with the undertray in place, but I'd always recommend taking the tray off as it makes the job easier, plus, whilst under the car, you can inspect the engine bay and the suspension components for wear or damage from below - which often reveals problems that you can catch before they cost you big time!

Cheers,

Mike

When I got my car serviced at Fontain (an independent Audi specialist) they took the undertray off and drained it out of the sump - I watched them do it. I can't believe suction is the standard procedure - how can you ensure you've drained all the sludgy muck in the bottom of the sump if you're not pulling it from the lowest point?

Tks for the response.....I am not so keen on the old oil being sucked out, so will probably do my own inter servicing oil change, just for peace of mind.

No probs with removing the undertray, quite handy with spanners etc...

Cheers.

My Local drains it,prior to me buying it the Audi Dealer cut a hole in the engine tray to drain the Oil the cheeky fecks
