MOT fail - front brake pipes

But please do not empty the system. Also when bleeding the brakes make sure if you are pumping the pedal to push the fluid that you place a block of wood under the brake pedal to prevent it travelling further down than in normal use. Otherwise the seals could be damaged.

Brake bleeding order is rear right, rear left, front right and last front left.
 
Some useful hints in this thread. @philward says it's bad to get air into the ABS but then others recommend a full fluid change. Wont that get air in?

No air gets in with a fluid change, fresh fluid is forced through the master cylinder ABS controller and out through the callipers in turn. Keep going until the fluid coming out is as fresh as the fluid going in. Keep topping up the master cylinder with fresh fluid, that is where the special tool, teapot, becomes very useful.
Fluid changed, no air in ABS.
 
Well, it's not going to plan...
Went to the motor factors to pick up the hoses, only one has turned up, the other will be Monday now.
It failed on the offside hose.
Advisories on nearside hose, 2 rear tyres and numberplate.
The plan was to get everything done over the weekend, then get it back for MOT on Tuesday.
The new plan is to just get the offside hose replaced, then getting it in for an MOT - it's disappointing that it will still now have advisories, there's no point in rushing to get them fixed now, one advisory, several advisories - it makes no difference.
I'll still do the nearside hose next weekend along with a complete fluid change.

No reason not to get the number plate and rear tyres done as that will remove two advisories. Did you not check the tyres before the MOT?

I did check the tyres - they both have plenty of tread, unfortunately there is slight cracking on the wall at the back - something that can only really be seen when the car is on the ramps. It's nothing major, but they will get replaced.
 
@Bri76 looks like you have the correct hose. Before you open the bag measure the pipe on the car with a bit of string cut to length. Lay string over pipe in bag to confirm.

Cheers. I'll be getting on it later today - the new plan is to get the MOT failure side done today, pick up the second hose tomorrow, get that done hopefully on Tuesday along with brake fluid change, tyres done on Wednesday, MOT again on Friday. (Numberplate is done).

One down - one to go! It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I hope the nearside is as easy to do.

It passed!

2 new brake hoses, new bake fluid (I blead the clutch too), 2 new bleed nipples for the front callipers, 2 new tyres and a numberplate... plus bleeding knuckles when the spanner slipped. Managed to do everything for around £200 (economical tyres) - Kwikfit wanted £180 odd just to do the hoses, so it was well worth giving it a go myself.

It’s quite easy really.
1. Remove brake reservoir cap and place some cling film over the reservoir and replace cap tightly.
2. Remove flexi fixing clamp attachment on strut. Clamp off flexi. Cut flexi downstream of the clamp. Remove old pipe from caliper.
3. Screw new flexi into caliper and refit fixing to strut.
4. Undo remaining bit of flexi from solid pipe. Some fluid will leak but if you are reasonably quick only a little will be lost.
5. repeat for other side.
6. remove cling film and top up reservoir. Bleed callipers.
Drink beer.
Exactly what I did a few months ago on my tdi apart from drinking beer.
Replaced the calipers, discs, pads and backplates too.
