My A2 "Top spec" project (AKA my Holy Grail)

SAD Day !!!!!!! Goodbye

Sad day today, the new owner collected the car and I had sorted out all of the minor glitches (there weren't many) so the car was as perfect as I could ever get it (had a professional detailing too.

Very sorry to see it go, but it was costing me £200 a month for storage and the main reason was that now that it is perfect it could only go downhill with usage. The money also came in handy (between contracts at the moment)

So it had to happen and I can now enjoy A2s in a different way. Buying the odd one to rescue and return to health.

Got two already a FSI Sport 89k miles and a tdi with more or less 200k miles but great spec.

So that will help maintain my A2 addiction.

But definitely the end of an era for me, no more projects and the A2 "holy grail" was the last and probably the best project out of many. Losing many thousands on every project (you don't do a project and mods for profit, it would have to be fully OEM to stand a chance of that.

I am sure he will be occasional browser, but I don't think he will be super active on here (he seems far too normal to spend his spare time discussing A2s ;))

I'm sure its like "once you've joined, you can never leave" type of thing.

Quick question, I'm a bit confused about what wheels you have/had. Which ones were on it when you left? I believe they're the A1 18" Rotors, but correct me if I'm wrong. I mainly ask as these are the ones I am thinking of putting on my 1.4TDI, and was wondering about performance/fit etc.

The pictures were taken today as it left with the new owner.

They are aftermarket 18 X 8J and they cost just over £400 new. My rear arches have been modified for clearance because of the 19" wheels I had on and so these fit with no rubbing at alll on the rears, the fronts are no problem anyway and not cutting or extra clearance is required.

I have run the A2 with many different 18 wheels on and I find them to give a perfectly acceptable ride comfort and I like the improved steering response etc.

I recommend Vredestein tyres for grip and comfort, but most tyres are ok (you need 215 35 18s to maintain the correct size.

Just finished reading this and have to say it was fascinating, inspiring and enormously helpful as a guide to a newbie contemplating his first A2 and trying to assess what is retrofittable and what is not possible or practical to change later.

Oh, and I loved the black roof/pillars.

I look forward to seeing what you do next.
