Anyone planning on going to the Birmingham motorshow?

I'm going on Tuesday so will post any photos that may interest everyone. If anyone is going and wants to send me any relevant photos, I'd be happy to put them online.

But BMW haven`t made the effort! Searching a 1 Series Alternative ?

A2 TDI Sport Gone but Not Forgotten.

A3 TDI DSG, What do i do with my left arm and leg now ?

I'm still not sold on the 1-series, especially with the pricing, lack of standard features and looks (which haven't grown on me yet!).

I have a couple of other possibilities that I'd like to take a closer look at though, plus it's a good excuse to take a day off work!

Hi Stuart,

I was lucky enough to go on Tuesday night. Press/VIP night. Quite an amazing experience, with full access to every car, including the Merc SLR, Maybach, Ferrari's, Aston DB9 & Vanquish, etc etc etc. The Mini experience is pretty cool, however I wouldn't bother with the 'Metropolis Adventure' (live action arena) - £7.5, and its just advertising - good for the kids though.

How did you manage that Kaine?...I'm very jealous!

BMW have now announced prices and full spec of the 1-series and I have say that the 120D SE does have quite a good standard spec, but obviously the price is still a little steep at over £20k.

Hi Stuart,

It was very short notice, as the people who were actually invited dropped out last minute. Just lucky really that an old friend who was organising it for his company, thought of me.

Will be going again on Tuesday though - wife wants to go, plus I missed out most of the affordable cars that I wanted to look at, as I was running around like a kid in a toy shop.

I have that problem myself in Ann Summers.......

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

I didn't know Long Stratton had any shops?

Yes, Norwich has an Ann Summers. Just behind farmer Barleymo's turnip shop, next door to Delia's 'Norfolk n'Good' pie shop.

Runboy, you seem to know more about Ann Summers than chip shops. A shrink (I can't spell psychiatrist) would make a lot of this. The last time I went to the motor show the mini was new (1959)says he desperately trying to stay on topic.

Last time I went was when the last Golf went public and I really wanted that blue dash lighting. Seems like yesterday but already another Golf is out......

I did once win a trip to the Geneva motorshow courtesey of SEAT when they launched the Arosa. Very nice of them!

So what do you think of the Altea then? Being a SEAT man at heart I would love to know.

I like the new Octavia-that wrap over bonnet is sweet.

Were there any fancy girls there, draped over any exotic motors?

And none of Toyota? Not even one of the new Corolla?

Although I am not overly pleased about them launching a revised Corolla when the 'old' one has only been out for 18 months and they are still advertising it! A short life cycle them Japanese car makers.

The Altea was very nice - a little plasticky on the doors but a very spacious interior and great styling.

Yes, the young ladies were out in force, have a separate website section for those photos! [13]

I'm not very impressed either that they have already revised the Corolla now that ours is only 12 months old. I did take some photos of it but haven't load them on the site.

Toyota facelift every 12-18 months - its a policy of theirs for cost reduction. The selling price stays the same, while the production price goes down over time. Basically, suppliers have to give year-on-year cost reductions to toyota, and to do this they try to introduce new technologies/designs - to avoid hundreds of changes happening at different times, toyota manage them as a minor model changes.

Stuart,

I did make it yesterday (about 2:15pm) - tried to call you, but it went straight onto answer phone. Agree with you about the Saab 9-3; they definetely won the 'most comfortable seat' award in my book.
