Yippee.
Increased residuals on the original then.
My loocal dealer has been dreading this moment and has 'stockpiled' the 'old' model as he has few takers for the 'Durante Schnoz'

NEVER attempt a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
A2 1.4 SE TDI replaced with A3 2.0TDI DSG, the transmission of the future - today.

It's not a new car, but just a new front and grill! ;)

(The same as on the Audi A3 Sportback)

Bit more than that Kak - the interior has been revised to match the Sportback too.

But so soon after launch? Why? I always thought prestige makers wanted to limit updates of their models thus preserving a quality image.

Steve - A couple of A2's, then a Corolla, now an Avensis T3-X 2.0 Auto

Because all the other models have this front now. (Not the A2 and TT)

Yip... the sooner they change ALL the range to the new look the better for values in 3 years time... Bad luck for people that bought an A4 or A3 3 door in the last year... This is particularly bad for the A4 I think as the new one looks quite a bit different than the old one... But still less severe than parking a Bangle designed BMW Z4 next to a pre-Bangle Z3...

From what I understand the last A4 was just a face lift version, whilst the 'new' one is still a carry-over model but with major re-engineeriung work, plus that new grill.

2004 1.4 TDi (90) SE, Cobalt Blue, Climate control, Cruise control, DIS, Sport seats, Winter pack, Symphony II.

Yes correct. Audi was scared of what the totally new BMW 3 series will do to its sales. Hence the major A4 facelift that was only planned to be unveiled next year was brought forward a year. Thus the "new" A4 was launched BEFORE the 3-series. This also explains why it looks so much different outside (to the pre-facelift version) as most people will think it is a totally new car when it is in fact only a very big facelift.

Generally facelifts are designed at the same time as the first edition of the car. Thus a carmaker can launch it whenever they feel like it... OR never at all such as the case was with the Golf 4. That had a facelift already designed but the first shape was so popular that they never gave it even the merest hint of a facelift. Always the sign of a good design. (Think Peugeot 205 here that also never got a BIG facelift - they changed the rear lamps a tiny bit and that was it)

A few years ago when Rover updated the 200/400 lots of owners went out and bought the new bonnet/grill.

I wonder if Audi buyers will be getting the old bonnet/grille fitted after delivery?

1.4 Petrol Special Edition, Ebony Black, grey leather, heated seats, climate, opensky, five spoke alloys for SWMBO (Replaced a 2002 1.4 Petrol SE) Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 iCDTi for me.

Well lots of people on this very website of ours retro-fitted the new A2 grille to their cars... So I don't see why people won't do it to their A3's. They will be totally foolish however. Taking of the new face to put on an old face will cost you a new bumper to begin with. Add spraying it body colour and labour and you are probably looking at £1000 or so? What will this do? Date your car in one easy swoop as an "old face" Audi. So you will lose more on the basic price of your car's value come resale time let alone the £1000 you foolishly paid to retro-grade your car... Give it a few years and everyone will be used to the new face of Audi.

People got used to BMWs looking as they do and the generally loathed 7-series is in fact the best selling 7 series of all time...

So all I can say is: current old face Audi A3s will be worth less than new faced ones in a years time. Far less. So don't bother trying to find one now unless you get it for a BIG discount to compensate for your future losses.

Except that...................

the seven was toned down considerably shortly (three years) after launch
and the six and new three are less overtly flame styled.

I am willing to bet that the Schnoz is toned down in future iterations as sales are lost to competitors.

I think the new nose makes Audi's look fat and heavy. Appologies to those that own one. I also think the nose will be toned down in the next round of face lifts.......am so glad Audi resisted touching the A2 too much before it's premature death.

The A2 had a normal 6 year production run Will. Definitely not premature its death! Just that there is no replacement.

And the 7-series was hardly toned down. A 3 year facelift is also normal in the industry as it is exactly halfway through the standard 6 years production run. They tweaked the front lights ever so slightly and made the rear lights bigger. All in all less of a tweak than the "new" A4 got... just look at my earlier post http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3704 re these vertical grilles... MORE and MORE companies are doing it and soon it will be the norm.

I think you will wait a long LONG time for Audi to ever tone this new look down... Buy your new Audi in silver and the chrome surround is far less noticable! LOL

I pass a new A6 most mornings on the way to work. In pale blue it looks awful, all grille as the rest just blends in to the background!

It's much nicer in a dark metallic IMHO.
