Classic Audi lines. I like it.

Still dont like it from the front and very like the Rover 75 from the back.

2002 1.4 Petrol SE, silver with climate control for SWMBO (1.4 Petrol SE, Ebony Black, grey leather, heated seats, climate, opensky, five spoke alloys on order) Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 iCDTi for me.

I generally like it. Though I am not too sure of the overly aggressive front grill now. I’m sure the radiator isn’t as big as the grill, so there is no need for it to be that big, other than for styling.

When I have the need for that type of car and the finances ;) the A4 Avant will certainly be towards the top of my list, together with the Honda Accord.

2004 1.4 TDi (90) SE, Cobalt Blue, Climate control, Cruise control, DIS, Sport seats, Winter pack, Symphony II.

I'm so glad someone else said Rover 75. I thought that from the side profile - especially the glass area.

I've now seen a couple of A6's on the road and I think the front end works well with the overall car.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Why did you have to say Rover 75? Your so right!!
Damn - even the grill is taken from new 75 V8.

Audi copying Rover - superb!!

I think the time-line on the drop grill design started with pre-war Bugatti's, then more recently in the Alfa Romeo 156, from which they have got increasingly larger as seen in Audi's and now the Rover 75 V8. My vote goes to Audi for the more elegant design.

The Rover V8 and Audi A6 were launched at the same motorshow... so it is neither here not there who was first with a vertical grille for sale to the public. But Audi had not been secretative about it before hand with various concept models. So I certainly don't think the Audi grille was taken from the 75 V8... Auto Union (from hence the grille originates) is a tad older than the 75 V8 I dare say! :)

OK guys, I was only joking - I sort of guessed they weren't copying Rover. I'll get my coat.

Maybe I was being a little harsh. Rover may have taken all their inspiration from Rover P5 and never set eyes on any Audi concept cars. ;) But on the other hand there's more chance of Rover getting their inspiration from Tata these days......and what handsome vehicles the make!

Rover 75.

Mind you, maybe the Rover would be better built......

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

The Rover 75 is actually a very underated good car... I think it also falls into the A2's "for the informed few" category. Albeit only with MG badges on the nose. But as the only BMW engineered Rover out there it can't be bad. It still has BMW climatecontrol AFAIK (Kaine you should know if that is still the case?) and a few other bits and bobs too - like the 2,0 TDI engine from the 320d (though a few years older tune than the latest BMWs)... A big MG version in the right colour and spec is always something I enjoy looking at...

Johann - the Aircon is a Rover only unit (not BMW), however it does use the same A/C compressor as used on many BMW's. I agree with you on the fact the car is underated though - its one of those cars I always consider, especially with the Rover Employee Discount, which basically anyone can get if you know how (i.e. goto www.xpower-mg.com, join the forum, post at least 5 posts over a 3 month period - voila - you can get the employee discount!!)

Sat in a MG ZT the other day. Stayed there for about 20 seconds and leapt out. Not for me! Don't know why one car is different from the next (if you know what I mean-they all have engines, steering wheels etc) but it just didn't do it for me. Shame really as on paper and from the outside a MG ZT is a very good motor.

...and also one of the few affordable good and decent "British" cars left. The rest are either horrid decade old design 25s or coupes for the well healed (Aston Martin, TVR et al). (and then there is the awful Mondeo Chihauhau eyed X-class Jag beast as well unfortunately).

Nope... it is the most un-Jaguar thing ever to grace 4 wheels... would have been OK as a Hyundai and no-one would have bought them... but as a Jag?!!! Urgh... No wonder the company is in dire straights... enough people share my view obviously and they are NOT buying as many Jags as they should...

Saw on news that Rover has now been fully bought by a Chinese company... hmmm... hopefully quality will be better than that of the TATA tie-up...
