I'm pleased to announce the arrival of a new member of my family...

Born at 5:25pm this afternoon, weighing 3649lbs, smooth pale blue metallic skin, 2 bright white eyes, 5 arms, a very small appetite; he'll be a nice big brother to my A2!

The full spec is as follows:
- Toyota Corolla 1.4i T-Spirit
- 5 speed manual (petrol)
- Climate control
- Rear parking sensors
- Single CD Player
- 6 Speakers
- DVD Sat Nav (1 disc for whole of Europe)
- Electric Sunroof/all windows
- Optitron Display (hence the appearance of no dials in the photo above)
- Computer
- Front centre armrest!
- Alarm (of course!)

Before anyone asks...I will not be setting up a Corolla owners club! There is already a very popular owners club with forum which I have already joined!!

I didn't think you needed an alarm for a Corolla - no one wants to steal them!

2002 1.4 Petrol SE, silver with climate control.
Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

Congratulations on your newborn... you kept the pregnancy quiet ;)

Perhaps Ian was suggesting, as with the A2, that the immobiliser is sufficient deterrent to thieves that they don't make the effort? [:I]

Would it be rude to enquire how much it cost? And an Optitron display is...? (I'm guessing a funky matrix screen)

The car with spec as above was £14,500.
It's difficult to describe what the optitron display is! Basically when the key is out of the ignition, all the dials are completely black (as in the photo above). As soon as the key is turned, all the dials light up with white back lighting. When you turn the side/headlights on, the display dims down for night driving. The whole thing is only offered on the top models and looks quite smart.

Welcome to the Corolla family. Inside looks identical to mine, so glad they haven't updated it so soon after me buying it!.

By the way, you can adjust the Optitron lighting level-I found it to dull with the lights on at dusk time. I only found out through the Toyota OC forum, so I don't think it is in the manual!.

Enjoy the new arrival!.

At least these days Japanese cars have their indicators on the correct side of the steering wheel! So you won't curse the poor car every time you get into it as my dad did when he had both a Corolla and a BMW! Enjoy! You and Runboy can have your own club now!

I used it to make the 22 mile commute to work this morning - with the navigation on to see if it plotted the same route that I usually take.

It's a very solid and quiet ride - it's not terribly exciting but then it's not meant to be a sports car! But that aside, there was plenty of grip on the wet roads this morning and it was pleasant enough and comfortable inside - which is lucky as we're driving across Europe in it in a month or so.
