New Catalytic Converter????

Hi can anyone help me.

I have an A2 1.6FSi it has just passed the MOT but the garage was suprised that it had passed. They have informed me that the underneath cat needs replacing as there are no minerals left, they asked if i had a rattle underneath and a loss of power which i have.
Can anyone tell me where to get one at a good price, they all seem very expensive as my car is 52 plate and they have to be approved after March 2001.
Any help would be most appreciated.

hi awinter i fitted new cats to my fsi a year ago,my independent mechanic told me that it was worth paying the extra for the Audi parts due to them being allot better quality.as i was keeping the car i bit the bullet and got the Audi parts(2 year warranty). my front cat had failed but the second cat had got a rattle as it was breaking down inside.my mechanic thought it was due to my car only ever doing short trips by the first owner(21k in 5 years).

ps note there are 2 types of cat on the fsi's they look different so easy to spot before strip down
