Hy there! Got the typical anti-roll-bar-noise. Replaced the link but no change. Is it the bar itself? Can one thell the difference between the old-and new style bar? Motormounth?

It is not the ARB (anti roll bar)

I've checked today. Put the car up with a car lift (dunno the englisch term) and it's the new stile anti roll bar. All rubber parts look like brand new.

Can it be the motor mounth thats giving me rumble at low speeds?

I have a similar problem to you, but i have the old style bar. I printed out a copy of the diy ARB replacement instructions by VKX245l, with the parts required to do the job. I took this to a local VW/ Audi specialist.

They told me that there is no need to change the ARB, but instead to break off the old plastic housing from the ARB, and fit the new modified bushes and clips.

I pick up parts tomorrow, and the A2 is in on Monday for ARB, Cambelt, Brake Pads and service. I`ll let you know the outcome.

Phil

Picked up the modified bushes last fri, price including clips was approx £10.

Car went in yesterday for cambelt, ARB, brake pads and service. Went to pick it up this afternoon, got a suprisingly nice bill of £220. Not too bad me thinks.

The stealers must make an absolute fortune servicing and repairing cars. Independants are the way forward, especially if your car is 3 years old or more.

Oh, and the knock has gone.

Cheers Phil

Great! I have checked mine, its the new style ARB with new droplinks. Still got the rattle but my stealer is investigating right now! Hopefully he finds something but my confidence in strealers is minimal....

It is getting worse!

Damn, the stealer could not find anything, neither did I after I put it up a stand. Does anybody have an idea?? It is getting worse. Thats what my stealer hoped for, the problem gets more easy to diagnose, so he says.

Hi Kodjo,

On my car the knocking noise stopped after I had the dampers replaced. Before the dampers I had the drop link on the nearside replaced as this was making a knocking noise too. Now that both ARB drop link and dampers have been replaced, there are no knocking noises. Both had to be replaced as both were making noises. ARB was done about 3 years ago and no problems since (touch wood!).

I hope this helps.

John.

do you have a part number for these modified bushes and clips as my audi dealer says they do not exsist?
sounds better than changing the whole bar....
