Not a dickie bird from the starter motor!

Hi All

Went to start the car this morning (very cold). The engine turned over but did not start. Tried again and nothing at all. Not a sound. Am I correct in assuming I need a new starter motor? Damn!

Starter motor

Something like this happened to me with a golf mk2 diesel
When ther is absolutely no response from the starter
Check your earth connections around the starter in the end one of my main engine earths to the chassis was so badly corroded that it broke the circuit
All I did was touch it somewhere else and it fired up

It will be unlikely to be your starter or your battery which I assume is ok

Thanks for the response Paul. The battery is fine. Where is the location of the starter motor in a TDI and where might the other earthing points be? I've looked for the motor but nothing obvious has been forthcoming. It is all pretty tightly packed in!
