OBD2 reader recommendations.

I have recently purchased a Topdon TD309 reader in order to clear the AIRBAG light on my 1.4 Petrol A2. Unfortunately the reader would not connect and Im being offered a refund on the item. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of other makes / models that actually connect to the A2 and will clear this problem. I need to get the car MOT'd and obviously the AIRBAG light will cause an instant fail. Many thanks in advance.

I've used an XTool VAG401 for the last couple of years that I picked up from Amazon on one of their Black Friday promotions. They have a few similar models - possibly slightly newer versions, although the price seems to have increased a bit since I bought mine (was just under £30 at the time). Works well on my '04 1.4tdi A2 as well as a '52 1.4i and an '03 A6 for reading faults & clearing errors on the Engine, Dashboard & HVAC ECUs. This doesn't necessarily mean it will connect to my cars' airbag controller, but I've been a bit wary of doing this just in case something goes wrong and it sets it off (yes, I am paranoid!).

There are bound to be a few models that should work, some of which are cheaper than the 401's current pricing, but I can't complain about the above - has paid for itself several times over now already.

So guys, Im at a loss.. connected up my U281 today and searched for codes, 6 in total. 17559, 16804, 16786, 17972, 18058 and 18043. All cleared ok but the air bag light is still on. No idea where to go from here so I'm looking for help!!!!

Any new codes after the scan and clearance activity ?
Vcds is the tool for the job. It will read codes that generic reads will simply ignore

Nothing at all. Its all clear. Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and take it to my local specialist.

hi there, I've used the XTool VAG401 for the last five years on my FSI, i bought my car running like a lister dumper truck,
with the help of my XTOOL it fly's like a lightning jet? its only done 143.000 miles, £38 quid at moment
