on startup, alarm sounds and brake warning lights

Hi,

I'm using second hand information in that I am going on what my wife is telling me; but, when she starts up the car, she hears three loud alarm sounds inside; and on the dash, the following lights up; a circle with triangle and exclamation mark, a circle with excl mark in the centre with a brake symbol above it, and on the right, a circle with ABS inside it. These (or at least some of these) stay on as she drives, and the alarm is repeated on every startup.

Two questions;

Any guess what will cause this and projected cost? And, should I go to a main Audi dealer with this, or will a fairly low-tec VW specialist be just as well placed to fix this.

3 alarm chimes is a class 1 fault and could be a number of things. Take a look at the manual and compare the symbols shown at start-up with the book of words.

A scan is the best way forward and most places worth their salt have this facility now (if you're near to Manchester, I'll do it even!).
