This post is WorkInProgress and not complete. The dates refer to production dates.
Several members have contributed to this information overview on another post https://www.a2oc.net/community/inde...view-for-neophytes-newbies.39907/#post-427861 and below.
If you have additions to this post, pls add your input, and I will update the main overview accordingly.
Diesel - Engine Codes
AMF (75bhp Euro3) Launch until August 2003
BHC (75bhp Euro4) September 2003 to end of production.
ATL (90bhp, Euro4) from Sept/Oct 2003, withdrawn late 2005/2005
ANY 1.2TDI from June 2001 to end of production (not sold in UK). The Lupo 1.2TDI changed from ANY to AYZ in 2001. Only difference between the two is that the former's EGR is vacuum actuated while the latter is electric.
Diesel - Gearbox Codes
FLE - 1.2TDI (ANY) automated manual used in 3L A2 & VW Lupo.
02J family (MQ250 - manual, 250Nm limit)
EWQ/EEA - 1.4TDI (AMF)
GPK - 1.4TDI (BHC)
GRJ - 1.4TDI (ATL)
Petrol - Engine Codes (all Euro4):
AUA 1.4 Launch until some time in 2002
BBY 1.4 from May 2002 until end of production.
BAD 1.6 FSI from May 2002, withdrawn late 2004/2005
Petrol - Gearbox Codes
02T family
EYX - 1.4 (I think there are a few more but same ratios etc.). 02T family, lower ratios.
GSK - 1.6FSI - again there may be a few more codes for these. 02T family, longer ratios.
Other related gearboxes
MZN - Polo Bluemotion 5-speed gearbox for 1.4Tdi with longer ratios. 02J family or very similar.
MYP / PTW / NRG / PTU - Golf / Passat Bluemotion 6-speed boxes, long ratios - closely related to 02J boxes & can be retrofitted with minor modifications. Few other related codes from similar VAG vehicles.
DSK gearbox was used on the Lupo 1.2TDI/3L until 2001. Same ratios as FLE, is interchangeable but has slightly different internals. DSK may have been used on early A2s.
See HERE for more details on each of these, however the key info when choosing which to look for is that the PTW has the appreciably longer gearing in the lower gears similar to the GRJ 5 speed (TDI 90 / ATL engined cars), when compared with the other six speed options and hence could be argued is more suited to upgrading a TDI90 / ATL: The others are indistinguishable from each other in terms of the conversion and their lower gears match the gearing of the EWQ / EEA / GPK - This is worth bearing in mind if you are simply looking to "add a gear" on to what you have now.
