Passenger airbag disable

I've discovered that the facility to disable to passenger airbag (essential for rear-facing childseats should you need to put them in the front) was an optional extra, and of course I've realised my car doesn't have it.

My question is, can it be retro-fitted, and if so, how? I understand the disable facility was via a key-activated switch in the glove box. What other components were required?

There is a kit available and it is dealer fit only, due to needing a keyed-alike lock barrel.

Its not as convenient as a switch but you could have the airbag disabled by someone with VagCom or an Audi dealer. It can be turned back one once the child is older - see link
