Power Capacitors

If you're in the market for a power (or stiffening) cap for your audio system, Maplin have a 1 farad model on offer at the moment.

I've bought one today and will try fitting it tomorrow (knee permitting). I hope that it may cure my alternator whine problem, after my last attempt failed.

My last attempt involved fitting an alternator supressor cap - only trouble is that on the TDi 90, the alternator puts out 140 amps!!!!!

Needless to say, the cap couldn't cope and shorted internally.

Anyway, as this one comes after the battery, it should be fine in that respect, and it may well tighten up the bass.

Oh, it's half price by the way - £40 down from £80 and seemingly an utter bargain.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Well, I've had the cap running for a week or so now and the difference is astounding!

The alternator whine, although still present, is much less intrusive than it used to be. The bass response though is out of this world! I'm not talking about a system to compete with the Max Power readers in their souped up Saxos, but the whole sound is much, much tighter.

Get one for Xmas - you'll be glad that you did!
