Problems starting

Hi,

Yesterday car started acting strange: after turning on head lights a sound of some electrical motor appeared and was gone only after turning of lights.
Today engine does not start at all. From the sound it looks like starter is turning normally, but the engine does not start. I guess there is there is some short circuit... Before taking it to electrician I wanted to ask maybe someone had such problem at it can be easily fix?

Hi Tadas, welcome to the A2oc.
Its difficult to work out what the problem is from your description so here are a few questions which may help with the diagnosis -
Petrol or diesel ?
When you turn the ignition key does the starter make a whirring noise. If so, the starter is turning but the pinion may not be engaging with the ring gear so the engine is not turning.
If the engine is turning over but never fires up, it may be a faulty crank speed sensor
If its a diesel and it eventually starts after cranking for a long time, it may be the fuel filter leaking.
As with most problems, a diagnostic scan is a good starting point.
