Quick Question - Cost of rear brake caliper

Afternoon all

My wife's car is in the main dealers at the moment for an MOT and it's failed due to a binding rear brake.

The girl on reception who phoned me has told me the investigation costs are to be about £80 and that i might need a new caliper.

Question is - how much should i be expecting to pay for this?

I've got to get the MOT today as the tax runs out on Sunday so in some ways, i feel as though i'm over a barrel - so i'm trying to be forewarned / forearmed!

Thanks in advance

Edited to add: It's a 1.6 FSi SE and the off-side

Edited to add again: I've been quoted £327.37 including VAT for the repair and replacement of the caliper and that includes £80 for the investigation of the job. Does this sound (and i'm straining to type this word) "reasonable"?

Hi
I don't have exact prices for a rear caliper but suspect it will be close to £200. Considering the labour rates of Audi main dealers their price sounds about right for the job.
Rear calipers are renowned for seizing up. Sometimes its possible to free them off but replacement is often the only cure.
Learn the lesson and have the MOT done early next year so you have chance to shop around if further work needs doing.

Cheers Spike

Thanks for your reply Spike.

As long as they are in the ball park, i've no complaints. Hell, as long as they don't try and charge for the MOT retest on top of that, i'm happy.
