Rear Hub Nut Torque Setting

I'm going to be fitting new rear brake shoes to my 2001 TDi tomorrow. Would anyone know the torque setting for tightening the new hub nuts? Thanks, Neil

If you are talking about the drive shaft securing nut, it is torqued to 70Nm + 30degrees further.

If you mean the wheel bolts, they should be torqued to 120Nm

Cheers,

Mike

Yeah, I was referring to the torque for the centre nut on the stub axle.

Useful to know the torque for the wheel bolts too. I've always just tightened them with the wheel wrench in the past. This time I'll do them right.

Many thanks!

Neil

No worries, just bear in mind that the hub nuts must always be replaced with new ones if they're removed.

I've just done a brake upgrade and had to remove the front ones, which are about £3 each. Yes, it's a lot for a nut, but it's the only thing keeping the wheel on the axel, so cannot be skimped on!

Cheers

Hi Neil
On A2's the centre nut is hidden behind a pressed - in cap and only undone when changing the wheel bearing / hub assy. You don't need to remove this for access to the brake shoes as the drum is just held on with a countersunk head screw.

Cheers Spike
