Hello All;

As the subject says, I'm curious to find out if a three year old six-disc changer, that comes as an option for the A2, can playback recordable CDs.

It should, but I feel I just needed to ask, just to make sure.

Cheers!

Hi, I'm not sure whether you mean the CD changer that fits in the boot or the Symphony II in-dash changer - but I can confirm that the latter handles CD-Rs just fine [24]

HTH,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It's the six-disc CD changer that fits in the boot.

A bit off-topic, but I'm curious if the auto-dimming rear view mirror can be fitted in by the garage or owner?

Cheers!

mine debates it. if i select certain discs, it refuses to play them. if it goes "naturally" to it, then it gets played.... these are TDKs, burned with a yamaha CRW-F1S at 44x.
ah yes: all the CDs are burned, so it may just be the position.

Ummm... I'm guessing it's wired into the power supply up to the OpenSky/Illuminated mirrors - ISTR that the mirrors were a prerequisite when I bought mine. You'll probably have to pull some of the roof trim down though to feed the wires through to the top of the windscreen...

Bret, I had a similar problem with the changer in my Passat. Some discs it just wouldn't play if you manually selected them but if it followed on from the previous disc automatically, it played OK.
And it played most of my CD-R's OK. This is probably the same unit that is fitted in the A2.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

Thanks for the additional feedback.

Instead of burning on bog-standard CD-Rs, I'll make up a playlist of my favourite "drive time" tunes on to a JVC CD-R for Audio and see how it works (and sounds!) on this A2 I'm to test drive, tommorrow.

Cheers!

Hello all;

Did the test drive this past Tuesday (the 2nd of March) on this X-Reg (2001) A2 1.4 SE and bought it! Delivery is next Wednesday the 10th of March.

As part of the price I paid for the car, they included the latest CD-ROM for the SatNav+ system (normally £117.50 STG). Had no idea they were so expensive! But then again this is my first car with SatNav.

The Bose Sound System sounded pretty good and the 5" LCD for the SatNav+ was clear and viewable. Also the JVC CD-R burned "drive time" tunes sounded good and didn't seem to have any problems playing.

Looking forward to playing with all the toys and driving it around town!

Hi,

The latest Sat Nav CDs come in 2 types, non-TMC and TMC (£89 and £155 from teleatlas).

The TMC ones enable the traffic congestion re-routing function, displaying of traffic info, and colouring of roads if they are busy.
